| The line drawing style was once the master of the picture in the 16 th century,but it was gradually replaced by the painting style in the 17 th century.After a long period of silence,it began to bloom again in the 19 th century.Such historical changes led to this research on the expressiveness of lines.Edgar Degas and Toulouse Lautrec were born at the end of the 19 th century and had great influence in the art history of the 19 th century.They experienced similar cultural eras and artistic environments in their respective artistic careers.The use of lines also reflects a certain connection.This article aims to explore the expressiveness of the lines in the paintings by studying the line elements in the works of the two artists and analyzing the use of the lines in the works of the two artists.This paper is divided into five chapters.The first chapter is the general introduction of this paper.Outline the development of line drawing styles and the concept of line expressiveness.The second chapter introduces the artistic experiences and life backgrounds of the two artists,and discusses the reasons why the two artists regard line as their most important painting language by discussing the times they lived in,their study experiences,and their choice of personal themes.The third and fourth chapters are the focus of the full text.The third chapter summarizes the line features and their causes in the paintings of the duo and consists of two subsections: the first section takes "Ukiyo-e" as the entry point and briefly describes the introduction of Ukiyo-e to the line elements and creations in the works of the duo.The change and influence of the subject matter;the second section summarizes the line characteristics of the two with rational choice and emotional characteristics,and analyzes its causes.The fourth chapter consists of three subsections.Through the analysis of the two’s works,specific researches are carried out from three aspects: the generalization effect of lines on modeling,the rhythm of pictures created by lines,and the "transient" and "perishable" conveyed by lines.II.The use of lines in human works explores the expressive appearance of lines.The fifth chapter summarizes the reflection of the line as a painting language to the artist’s spirit.The first section summarizes the influence of the two on the choice of painting language through an overview of the artist’s era and artistic environment;the second section discusses the artist’s self-selection,and discusses the line as the painting language they choose to convey.spirit and personality.Artists are not bound by eras and genres,and the expressiveness of lines as a painting language is also the independence conveyed by artists. |
