This is an English-Chinese translation practice report.The author of this report takes the Acadia National Park as the original text to explore the guiding role of translation variation theory in her translation practice.Acadia National Park introduces the scenic spots,natural resources,tourism strategies and local cuisine of Maine,as well as its achievements in tourism introductory.As a tourism material,the original text is rich in regional characteristics,with various linguistic and non-linguistic factors.In order to effectively convey the information of the original text to the target language readers,the author of the report,based on the analysis of the original text and under the guidance of the translation variation theory,makes some adaptation to the translation through amplifying,omitting,condensing and adapting.The use of these variation approaches helps covey the original information in the way that is easy for the target language readers to accept.The translation report is composed of task introduction,process description,case analysis and summary.The first chapter is the introduction of the background,and research significance of this translation project.The second chapter is the introduction of language features of the original text and translation variation theory;Chapter three is the analysis of the difficulties in the original text and the strategies adopted in translation;Chapter Four is the conclusion of the experience and unsolved problems.It is found that to achieve high quality translation of tourism materials,translators need both bilingual knowledge and linguistic competence in comprehension,expression,and adaptation.In addition,they should make comprehensive use of various variation approaches to enhance the effect of translation in order to meet the expectations of Chinese tourists and readers and make them truly feel the beauty of Maine. |
