Teachers’ verbal feedback is the teacher’s response to students’ performance in the classroom.In international Chinese classrooms,teachers’ verbal feedback not only evaluates students’ performance,but also transmits emotional signals,which affect learners’ emotional factors,thereby affecting language acquisition.In order to deeply explore the influence of feedback from teachers of Chinese to speakers of other languages on students’ learning affection,this paper takes 9 teachers and 109 students from the Confucius Institute at Ain Shams University in Egypt as the research objects.Through classroom observation,questionnaire survey and interview,we counted the types of verbal feedback used by Chinese teachers in real classrooms,analyzed the usage of verbal feedback by Chinese teachers and investigated the effect of verbal feedback from Chinese teachers on students’ learning affection.We found that when Chinese teachers use verbal feedback,there are some problems such as inappropriate feedback,single feedback method,and irregular language.Except that,discoursal feedback and positive evaluative feedback can help stimulate students’ learning motivation,enhance their self-confidence,and reduce their anxiety,however,negative evaluative feedback will weaken students’ learning motivation,reduce their self-confidence,and increase their anxiety to a certain extent.The degree of influence is related to the student’s own learning affection and language level,which means,students with weaker learning motivation,less self-confidence,and higher anxiety are more likely to be negatively affected by negative evaluative feedback.Furthermore,low level students are more likely to have negative emotions due to teachers’ negative feedback.Finally,based on the results of classroom observation and investigation,we gave relevant teaching suggestions from four aspects: feedback timing,feedback method,feedback language and feedback emotion,so as to provide reference for the usage of Chinese teachers’ verbal feedback.
