Nong Xi is the abbreviation of teasing drama.It refers to the dramatic performance in which actors play roles and perform plots to express their will in the way of banter and ridicule.It is different from general teasing activities such as song and dance,acrobatics and banter.Wang Guowei called it Huaji Xi,which was not called in the Tang Dynasty,but often named "Nong".The word of“Nong” has the dual meaning of "playing a role" and "bantering ang mocking",which reflects the types and style of drama.Therefore,this kind of banter and ridicule performance is called Nong Xi.Tang Dynasty was relatively open and inclusive.On the basis of inheriting the previous performence of You Jian and You Xi,the actors drew materials from the politics,society and daily life at that time,acted as different role identities,and performed jokes and mockery.According to the records of Yuefu Miscellany and Jiu Tang Shu,there were several kinds of Nong Xi which were popular in the Tang Dynasty.Such as "Nong Canjun" and "Nong Jiaguan",which act as officials to satirize officials and corrupt mediocre government;"Nong Jiafu" which act as woman to satirizes her behavioral morality;"Nong Brahman" and "Nong Confucius" which act as monks and Confucius to ridicule scriptures and Confucianism.In addition,there are also those which perform teasing with the help of acting as other images,which can be summarized as "Nong ghosts and gods","Nong idots","Nong drunken men" and so on.The images of ghosts and gods are novel and strange,and the images of idots and drunken men are funny and ridiculous,which have become the object of actors.Except for the different roles,there are also differences in performance content,form,theme and background,which are analyzed with its performence background in the text.All kinds of Nong Xi in the Tang Dynasty showed their own characteristics,besides,they also had something in common,such as the performence venues,costumes,performance skills,functions and so on.The performance of Nong Xi is often among the songs,dances and acrobatics.The performance venues can be divided into court,hall and square;Most of the famous performers are versatile,they are good at funny,singing and dancing.The exquisite skills and the costumes,makeup,props that highlight the role’s identity make the performance effect better;Tang you’s performance skills inherit and develop the performance experience of You Jian and You Xi,and add more entertainment through the skills of "imitating reality","homophonic pun" and "pretending to be foolish";In addition to the aesthetic pleasure through banter and ridicule to the audience,Tang Nong Xi can "make education through entertainment",that is incorporating irony and education in the entertainment.While transmitting the social situation of the Tang Dynasty and reflecting the general situation of the development of drama,Tang Nong Xi also has an important impact on the theme types,roles,performance skills and styles of later dramas.It is a unique existence in the history of the ancient Chinese drama.
