A C-E Translation Report On Chinese Traditional Culture And A Community With A Shared Future For Mankind(Excerpts)

In recent years,the study on Chinese culture broadcasting overseas through translation has become a hot research topic in translation studies,since the strength of culture is related to the nation’s international image,discourse power and national interests.The research on the translation of Chinese culture is gaining popularity in the field of translation and shows a vigorous development trend.Guided by the theory of functional equivalence,the translation report summarizes what translation techniques could be employed in Chinese cultural translation,by the translation of the excerpted chapters in Chinese Traditional Culture and A Community With A Shared Future For Mankind which is as the research object.The book contains a large number of Chinese classics and idioms.In order to deliver an accurate translation of the source text,specific translation techniques are adopted,including literal translation,free translation,conversion,amplification,omission,inversion,division,reconstruction.In this way,the translator realizes functional equivalence in lexical,syntactic and discourse levels.This translation report mainly includes five chapters: Chapter one introduces the content of the source material,and explains the background and significance of the translation project.Chapter two reveals the translation process,including preparation,while-translation and post-translation treatment.In Chapter three,the translation theory and its application in Chinese cultural translation are described in detail.The fourth Chapter is a detailed case study,where the translator explores the guiding significance of Functional Equivalence Theory from three aspects: lexis,syntax,and discourse.Major findings and limitations of the translation report are summarized in Chapter five.Under the guidance of Functional Equivalence Theory,the author specifically analyzes feasible translation techniques for Chinese cultural translation,in order to achieve the most natural equivalence for readers and provide some advice for future translators engaged in Chinese cultural translation.
