The family is a social unit formed for the purpose of realizing population reproduction and is the cell of society. The problem of family population plays a fundamental role in the study of family history. The family population history of liao Dynasty is a research field with limited academic accumulation, and the available historical materials are quite limited. On the basis of summarizing the gains and losses of predecessors, this study makes more effective use of liao dynasty historical materials by combining social science theories with historical methods, partly overcoming the shortcomings of historical materials and making new progress in the study of Liao Dynasty family history. The population size of liao family can be estimated by using the theory of "family life cycle" in modern family population research. Therefore, based on the stone carvings of Liao Dynasty, information such as the time of family establishment, disintegration time, duration of fertility stage, number of children and sex ratio of Liao dynasty should be calculated. It can be known that the family size of Liao Dynasty is between 5.02 and6.14.The age of death of family members in Liao Dynasty can be obtained through the statistical collation of stone carvings.Among the obtained family population information of Liao Dynasty,"average age of death" and "average number of children in a family" are suitable for further analysis due to the large sample size.In terms of "average age of death",the existing data are grouped by samples from different economic zones, different periods, different classes and different ethnic groups. It can be found that due to the influence of customs, economic factors and other factors, the statistical data are quite one-sided.Further isolation of the influencing factors on the age of death shows that the main factor causing the difference in the average age of death of liao population in stone carvings is the different lifestyles among different ethnic groups and classes. In the aspect of "average number of children in a family",we can also analyze it according to the method similar to the exploration of "average age of death",and conclude that the main factor affecting the average number of children in a family in Liao Dynasty is that the Han has a stronger fertility mentality of having more children and more blessings than other ethnic groups. After all, stone literature is limited and needs to be supplemented by other historical materials.Based on the analysis of liao Shi,it can be inferred that the average family size of palace households and ordinary people in Liao dynasty is similar to the average family size of Liao dynasty inferred from stone carvings, which proves that the family size of Liao dynasty is about 5 to 6 people. The liao family population data has high application value in social history, economic history and other fields.
