| Production-Oriented Approach(POA)advocates the combination of input learning and productive use,and helps students to obtain,select and process information about the target language by three main bodies of the teaching process,namely,“Motivating”,“Enabling” and“Assessing”,facilitating the successful completion of outputs.At present,middle schools in China have to pay more attention to students’ writing quality.The teaching of writing neglects the communicative nature of writing tasks and the procedural nature of writing output,the quality of writing(accuracy and complexity of language,etc.)cannot be improved effectively.In this thesis,POA is applied to the teaching of English writing,based on the output hypothesis and the input hypothesis to explore the following questions:(1)What effect does Production-Oriented Approach have on the expression accuracy of senior high school students’ English writing?(2)What effect does Production-Oriented Approach have on the expression complexity of senior high school students’ English writing?In this study,60 students from two classes in a high school grade 2 were selected as the subjects.Production-Oriented Writing Approach was conducted in the experimental class,while the control class adopted conventional English writing instruction.SPSS 23.0,iwrite and Web-based complexity analyzer were used to analyze the language accuracy and language complexity(including lexical and syntactic complexity)of the two classes in the two writing tests.And the interview materials were collected.The study found that Production-Oriented Approach had a positive effect on students’ writing:(1)Production-Oriented Approach can improve the accuracy of students’ writing language.Through “Selective learning” of input materials,students strengthen language cognition and apply it to writing output.POA’ s instant-and-delay,in-class and out-of-class evaluation models further urge students to pay attention to and avoid language errors(or mistakes),thus improving the accuracy of language.(2)Production-Oriented Approach has a significant effect on the lexical complexity,but not on the syntactic complexity.Students in the POA’ s “Motivating” and “Enabling” links contact and absorb rich language materials,growing vocabulary understanding and vocabulary enrichment,promoting the complexity of writing.In addition,students’ writing motivation is strengthened and self-efficacy is improved under the real communication needs.Therefore,Production-Oriented English Writing Approach in senior high school has certain feasibility and effectiveness. |
