After the genesis of the Republic of China’s tele-education business, the social influence as well as the educational function of film,a new medium of audiovisual entertainment, has gradually been emphasized. After the founding of New China, rural film projection was immediately put on the agenda, and with the establishment of the rural film distribution and projection network becoming more and more perfect, the medium of film was able to explore the vast rural areas of New China. What role did films play in the screening process during the "Seventeen Years" period, and what impact did they have on the rural audience? Through the search of relevant archives and press materials,we attempt to restore the rural film projection in Shaanxi Province during this period, and make a micro-narrative by "going back to the historical scene" as much as possible while respecting history,so as to make the discussion more reliable. The thesis begins with a review of the economic and cultural conditions in rural Shaanxi Province after the founding of the PRC,in part to clarify the objective circumstances and conditions faced by Shaanxi films in the countryside, which had a direct impact on the manner in which film projection was carried out.On the one hand, economic conditions are directly linked to the possibility of ticketed screenings;on the other hand, cultural level is related to rural audiences’ understanding of films and how projectionists conduct publicity.Chapter 2 of the dissertation focuses on rural film projection in Shaanxi Province during the whole "17 years" period, and grasps the different patterns of rural film projection in different periods of the "17 years" from a macro perspective. In the third chapter, the essay analyzes the activities of the projectionists and the projection teams, and draws out the underlying logic behind a series of behaviors,as well as how individual projectionists survived between the rural reality and the Republican blueprint in an atmosphere that promoted the collective and obscured the individual. Finally, mobile film screening is not only an integral part of the cultural work in rural areas of New China, but also an entry point for grasping the overall cultural atmosphere of rural areas in the early founding period.Through the event of film screening, the concept of marriage, the status of women, and the collision of old and new thinking in rural areas are all reflected, and these changes together constitute a complex cultural picture of rural areas in the early founding period of New China.
