The source text is selected from the first novel collection Boat,Boat published by Huang Beijia,a famous Chinese children’s literature writer. The excerpts of the novel tell the story of a great friendship between the rural child Puppy and the urban child Lotus Leaf who is an actor in the county’s troupe.Boat,Boat is a children’s novel. The book describes a story from the perspective of children, with exquisite writing style and humorous speech. The plot is full of ups and downs and the main line is clear and fascinating. After reading the full text,we can find that the author is adept at using culture-loaded words in this work. This translation practice project is divided into five chapters. The first chapter covers the translation task, the source text and author, the features of the source text as well as the significance of the translation task.Chapter two discusses the three stages of the translation process. The third chapter is about the theoretical basis.Chapter four is the case study.Under the guidance of Translator Behavior Criticism, the translator’s behavior tendency in the translation is divided into three states:"truth-seeking" orientation,"semi-truth-seeking and semi-utility-attaining" orientation and "utility-attaining" orientation, and the reasons for the behavior tendency in the translation process are analyzed. While translating children’s literature, how to preserve the image of the original text and conform to the reading and aesthetic habits of foreign children readers is a challenge for the translator. Therefore, the translator used "truth-seeking" and "utility-attaining" principles in Translator Behavior Criticism to guide translation. In addition,"Truth-seeking-Utility-attaining" Continuum Model of Evaluation is also used to guide the analysis of this translation case.Through this translation practice, the translator finds that Translator Behavior Criticism is suitable to guide the translation practice. However, through the investigation of "Truthseeking-Utility-attaining" Continuum Model of Evaluation, the translator finds that the translator’s behavior shifts from "truth-seeking" to "utility-attaining".The translator’s behaviors sometimes are inclined to "truth-seeking",sometimes are inclined to"utility-attaining".In the state of trying to achieve balance, the translator’s behavior tendency has been in a gradual state.Through this translation practice, the translator hopes to provide new ideas for the translation of children’s novels. |
