In the new century,with the transformation of the economic system and cultural form,the impact of consumption activities on China’s social life has become increasingly significant.In the publishing industry,the economic attributes of books have been enhanced,which has become the consensus of the industry and the general readers.Chinese literature in the new century has also expanded its living space,among which best-selling literary books as consumer texts have sprung up like mushrooms,occupying an important position in cultural consumption while undertaking cultural dissemination.The upgrading of media technology,the transformation of consumer ideology,and the strong attack of audiovisual culture have prompted new literary bestsellers to continue to show new development trends.Based on the perspective of literary consumption,this paper explores their text content,consumption representation,cultural symptoms and value enlightenment,and further reveals the trend of commodity logic and the current situation of literary survival in consumer society.The paper is divided into four main chapters:Chapter 1:Literary Consumption Theory and Bestseller Overview.First,this chapter places the theoretical research perspective in the contemporary consumption picture,and elaborates and defines the basic connotation,reality and dynamic mechanism of literary consumption.It is believed that the consumerity of literary goods and the aesthetic acceptance of literature constitute the basic connotation of literary consumption,and economic development,consumerist ideology and mass media are important driving forces to promote the development of literary consumption.In consumer activities,the commodity attributes of literature are highlighted and gradually take on symbolic characteristics,while literature relies on media technology to survive in contemporary society in diverse and vivid forms.Second,clarify the historical evolution and actual development of China’s bestseller phenomenon,and summarize the basic concepts and main characteristics of bestsellers.The basic core of bestsellers is that they sell well and can be maintained for a long time,followed by being in a relatively mature market environment,free trading,reasonable competition,and can be generally recognized by society.Third,from the perspective of literary carriers and their evolution,the form of literary consumption discussed in this article is a literary bestseller.Based on the actual research and referring to the classification standards of the "Chinese Library Classification Law",this chapter defines literary bestsellers as follows:literary books that have achieved large sales in a certain time and space and have attracted widespread attention in society are literary bestsellers,which embody the unity of postmodern industrial social economy and literature,not only express the function of literature,but also reflect the nature of ordinary commodities,and at the same time closely follow cultural fashion and popular trends,reflecting the spirit of the times and social values.Chapter 2:Literature bestsellers on the subject matter and genre.Since it is difficult to uniformly divide literary bestsellers,this chapter divides literary bestsellers into realistic themes(youth literature,workplace,business war,biographical literature),history,cultural themes(historical novels,cultural essays),science fiction literature,classic reading,famous works and online novels according to the content orientation and discourse form of literary bestsellers,and explains the close relationship between the realistic development of literary works of different themes and popular culture based on consumer culture.Systematically explore the public’s literary reading activities and literary consumption psychology.Chapter 3:Research on the Consumption Representation of Literary Bestsellers.In the new century,with the evolution of consumption activities and the upgrading of media technology,literary bestsellers have cultivated new literary consumption patterns,mainly embodied in three,first,based on commodity awareness and writer role gradually towards typed consumption,which is based on industrial production on the basis of natural results,reflecting literature’s pursuit of fashion and embarked on the road of fan economy.Second,the trend of audiovisual integration brought about by media changes has been strengthened,which is mainly manifested in the transformation from a single reading text to a reading of pictures based on film and television and games,and listening with audiobooks as the main carrier.Third,the aesthetic consciousness of literature has gradually become symbolized under the influence of consumer life,and the significance of literary bestsellers to individuals has expanded from general commodity consumption to group cultural identity,playing a bridge role in the communication between individuals and groups.Chapter 4:Cultural Symptoms and Value Implications of Literary Bestsellers.Objective Reflection In the highly materialized post-industrial era,the content writing and business operation of literary bestsellers,which represent both economy and culture,have successively highlighted various cultural symptoms.It is mainly reflected in the fact that,first,the homogenization tendency of consumption and production weakens the aesthetic ability and aesthetic taste of the public;Second,excessive catering to readers’ consumption needs weakens the positive role of literature,and there is a deep crisis that rational ability is weakened;Third,the speculative psychology under commercial operation breaks the two-way rush and fit between authors and readers,and the growth mechanism of literature does not fully work,but is gradually controlled by economic interests.Therefore,in the face of these problems,we must accept this change with a cautious and objective attitude,an open and inclusive attitude,and actively affirm and deeply explore the multiple values of literary bestsellers.We must see that the success of literary bestsellers has enriched the authenticity and vividness of literary narratives,and established a paradigm of literary popularization with popular texts.At the same time,it is necessary to give better play to the role of literary criticism,fully explore the aesthetic character of literary bestsellers,lead the public to read,and highlight the "responsibility" of literature with rigor-literary bestsellers are to give play to the dual value of literary connotation and commercial profits,which is also a necessary magic weapon for the development of literary bestsellers.The study of literary bestsellers enlightens us that literary consumption is an inevitable fact,after achieving the hustle and bustle of the market,literary bestsellers should return to the literary standard,actively expand the dimension of creation,not only to infuse aesthetic ideals without completely becoming a slave to money,but also to base on the core of culture,take into account entertainment and commerciality,rationally use media technology,and create best-selling literary products with the characteristics of the times.
