Reading is the foundation of learning English.Reading texts are not only vehicles for linguistic and cultural knowledge,but also express specific ways of thinking,cultural connotations and values through their inherent logic,cultural forms and linguistic features.However,today’s reading instruction is often superficial in terms of knowledge and comprehension,making it difficult for students to develop a deeper meaning of the text.In recent years,along with the rise and depth of learning science research,deep learning has gradually become a hot topic and focus of learning science research.It is important and valuable for teachers to guide and help students move from low-involvement,mechanically shallow learning to actively engaged deep learning,and to improve the quality of English reading instruction in the classroom.Drawing on constructivism,Bloom’s Taxonomy of Goals and other theories related to deep learning,and based on the development of basic English skills in high school students,this study sought the help of experienced teachers in high school to research and analyse whether high school students achieve deep learning,to summarise the problems and their causes,and to suggest appropriate measures.This study intends to address the following two questions.1.Does the in-depth learning method stimulate students’ initiative?2.What is the impact of the in-depth learning method on students’ ability to analyse and express texts in English reading?The study was carried out in a high school in Heilongjiang Province,where the class teacher was an experienced English teacher.In the control class,the teacher will continue the same teaching methods as before,and the process will take a professional approach to data collection and detailed analysis with the help of relevant tools.There is a lack of research that focuses on the effects of deep learning on secondary school students’ reading ability,so this study is somewhat innovative,but it has some limitations due to the interference of force majeure factors such as the time and environment of the study.The researcher hopes that this study can provide some reference for the high school English reading classroom and can also provide ideas for future research.
