As the world enters a great era of innovation and innovation becomes the main theme of the times, creativity as a core competency of young people has once again become a hot topic of research. Moreover,it is brought to an educational height and therefore is increasingly valued by researchers.Creativity is the ability of a person to think actively and dynamically with a clear purpose and goal, and to produce new ideas, theories, products and processes of social value.Creativity is not only closely linked to academic achievement, but also to the level of mental health, and is a reflection of the overall ability of adolescents to develop,so it is particularly important to study the factors associated with creativity that affect it.Anxiety is a kind of negative emotion commonly found in adolescents and is typical of this group, which not only affects their normal academic life and brings various negative experiences, but also hinders their comprehensive development. However, the relationship between anxiety and creativity and how it affects adolescents’ creativity is still obscure. Therefore, studying the effect of anxiety on creativity is useful for schools and families in teaching adolescents’ academic performance, physical and mental health, and high quality growth. This study constructed a chain mediation model based on processing efficacy theory, dual pathway model theory of creativity, and resource conservation theory.Specifically, the study examined the effects of anxiety on adolescent creativity,as well as appreciating the separately mediated and chain-mediated roles of social support and academic buoyancy in it.In this study,a total of 700 valid questionnaires were collected from five middle schools in Chengdu and Mianyang through the《State Trait Anxiety Inventory》,《Williams Creativity Scale》,《Perceived Social Support Scale》,《Academic Buoyancy Scale》.The results of the data analysis showed that:(1)In terms of anxiety: adolescents’ anxiety was generally at a moderate to high level, with girls’ anxiety levels(state anxiety/trait anxiety)significantly higher than boys’;non-class leaders’ anxiety levels(state anxiety/trait anxiety)were significantly higher than class leaders’.In terms of creativity: adolescents were generally at an intermediate level, with class leaders having significantly higher levels of creativity(adventurousness/curiosity/challenging)than non-class leaders;urban adolescents had significantly higher levels of creativity(adventurousness/curiosity/challenging)than rural adolescents;boys had significantly higher levels of creativity in the challenge sub-dimension than girls. In terms of perceived social support: adolescents’ perceived social support was generally at an intermediate level, with class leaders(friend support/family support/other support)having significantly higher levels of perceived social support than non-class leaders;the other support sub-dimension of perceived social support was significantly higher for girls than for boys.In terms of academic buoyancy: young people are generally moderately buoyant, with boys being significantly more buoyant than girls;class leaders are significantly more buoyant than non-class leaders.(2)Adolescents’ anxiety, creativity, perceived social support and academic buoyancy were bivariate;all sub-dimensions were bivariate, except for anxiety(state anxiety/trait anxiety),perceived social support(friend support/family support),academic buoyancy and the imagination sub-dimension of creativity, which were not bivariate.(3)Adolescents appreciate the role of social support in mediating between anxiety(state anxiety/trait anxiety)and creativity;Adolescent academic buoyancy mediates the relationship between anxiety(state anxiety/trait anxiety)and creativity;Adolescents appreciate the role of social support and academic buoyancy in mediating the chain between anxiety(state anxiety/trait anxiety)and creativity.(4)There is a significant negative association between anxiety and creativity;anxiety can influence adolescents’ creativity through the indirect effects of three pathways: the mediating role of perceived social support;the mediating role of academic buoyancy;and the chain mediating role of perceived social support and academic buoyancy, respectively. The results of the study help to reveal the effects and mechanisms of anxiety on creativity and can further provide useful suggestions for reducing anxiety and fostering creativity in adolescents.
