Musical Analysis And Performance Technique Study Of Rachmaninoff’s Piano Adaptation "Liebesfreud"

Sergei Varisyevich Rachmaninoff is one of the outstanding representatives of late Romanticism.He adapted American violinist Kreisler’s violin work of the same name into a solo piano work “Liebesfreud” with his unique style.The piano adaptation of Liebesfreud integrates innovative elements such as counterpoint techniques,musical materials,structural arrangement,improvisation techniques,and harmonic application.It is one of the most representative of Rachmaninoff’s piano adaptation works.In order to reproduce the creation process of Liebesfreud,so as to further explore the musical value contained in the music of Liebesfreud,and summarize the performance skills in the evolution process of the music.In this paper,the main line compares the piano adaptation Liebesfreud and the original violin version.The background of the creation and adaptation,music analysis,and playing skills are studied.This paper is divided into three chapters: the first chapter introduces the life of Rachmaninoff and the music of his adaptation and sorts out the background of the piano adaptation of Liebesfreud.The second chapter carries out the contrastive musical analysis between the piano adaptation of Liebesfreud and the violin original and studies the essential creative characteristics of Rachmaninoff in Liebesfreud from three aspects: structure,tonality,and counterpoint.The third chapter summarizes the playing skills and the technical difficulties,such as long-span chords,grace notes,and multi-voice parts of the piano adaptation Liebesfreud.The imitation and innovation of the piano to the violin timbres are introduced in this song.On the one hand,the research results of this paper provide theoretical support for the study of the characteristics of Rachmaninoff’s adaptation from the perspective of the comparison of the original music,and on the other hand,provide detailed technical reference for the performance of this work.
