Study On The Origin Of The Vocabulary In Tao Yuanming’s Poetry

This article aims to explore the source of Tao Yuanming’s Poetic vocabulary by sorting out all the words in Tao Yuanming’s poetry.In this article,2,089 monophonic words,1,866 polysyllabic words and 13 idiom are sorted out from Tao Yuanming’s poetry,totaling 3977 words.From the viewpoint of origin,these 3968 words involve 406 kinds of representative language materials.There are 999 words with 3 kinds of monograph language materials in the Shang and Zhou periods as the earliest examples;1,422 words with 39 kinds of monograph language materials and 3 kinds of single article language materials in the Spring and Autumn and Warring States periods as the earliest examples;249 words with 16 kinds of monograph language materials and 41 kinds of single article language materials in the Western Han period as the earliest examples;238 words with 14 kinds of monograph language materials and 45 kinds of single article language materials in the Eastern Han period as the earliest examples.There are 212 words with 12 kinds of monograph language materials and 103 kinds of single article language materials in the Three Kingdoms and the Western Jin period as the earliest examples.There are 848 new words and meanings of the Eastern Jin Dynasty in Tao Yuanming’s poems,accounting for 21.37% of all the words in Tao’s poems studied.This article is divided into nine chapters.The first chapter is the introduction,which introduces Tao Yuanming and his poetic annotated version.This article expounds the research status,significance and methods of Tao Yuanming’s poetic vocabulary.The second chapter is an overview of the research on the source of Tao Yuanming’s poetry vocabularyr,and focuses on the distinction between character and words and the previous generations’ definition of polysyllabic words,and clarifies the judgment criteria of monophonic words and polysyllabic words in Tao Yuanming’s poetry.Then,based on the definition of Tao Yuanming’s poems,the research ideas and methods of new words and new meanings are clarified.The third chapter to the seventh chapter is the discussion of the words inherited from the previous dynasties before the Eastern Jin Dynasty in Tao Yuanming’s poetic vocabulary.This paper divides the source times of Tao Yuanming’s poetry inherited words into five periods: The Shang and Zhou Dynasties,the Spring and Autumn and the Warring States Periods,the Western Han Dynasty,the Eastern Han Dynasty,The Three Kingdoms and the Western Jin Dynasty.Each Period’ words is first divided into monophonic words,polysyllabic words and idioms,among which monophonic words and polysyllabic words are then divided into twelve categories according to the parts of speech: noun,verb,adjective,numerals,quantifiers,pronouns,adverbs,prepositions,conjunctions,auxiliary words,interjections and onomatopoeia,and the inheritance situation and related Language materials in each era are explained.The eighth chapter combs the new words and new meanings of Tao Yuanming’s poems in the Eastern Jin Dynasty.According to the statistics,there are 60 new words and new meanings of the Eastern Jin Dynasty that have appeared in Tao’s poems and the large-scale reference books take other language materials of the Eastern Jin Dynasty as the earliest examples.There are 517 new words and new meanings in the Eastern Jin Dynasty with Tao’s poems as the earliest example in the large-scale reference book.There are 175 new words and new meanings in the Eastern Jin Dynasty,which are later than Tao’s poems and have appeared in large reference books;There are 31 new words and new meanings in the Eastern Jin Dynasty that have appeared in Tao’s poems but have no meaning in Tao’s poems in large reference books;There are 65 new words and new meanings in the Eastern Jin Dynasty that have appeared in Tao’s poems but not included in the large reference books.Chapter nine is the conclusion,which summarizes the research on the source of Tao Yuanming’s poetic vocabulary.Based on the systematic arrangement and analysis of the words of Tao Yuanming’s poetry,this article sums up the inheritance and innovation of the words of Tao Yuanming’s poetry.Based on the research of the new words and meanings in Tao Yuanming’s poetry,the important value of Tao Yuanming’s poetry in the compilation of dictionaries and the linguistic characteristics of strong oral language are confirmed.
