Interpretive Theory holds that the purpose of interpretation is to convey communicative sense.English-Chinese consecutive interpretation requires interpreters to convey the sense of the speaker to the target audience. This report is based on the author’s consecutive interpreting practice during a seminar on environmental studies held by the Research Group of the University of Antwerp in Belgium on October 5th,2021.Combining with interpretation cases in the practice, this report takes the three interpreting processes of the Interpretive Theory as the research framework, and analyzes the problems encountered in listening comprehension, content deverbalization and output reformulation. In comprehension, the interpreter encountered problems brought by the speaker’s accent and professional knowledge. In content deverbalization, the interpreter confronted obstacles such as long information unit and figure interpretation. In language reformulation, the interpreter had to solve difficulties of keeping terminology professional and syntactic structure clear. In response to the above problems, the interpreter puts forward corresponding coping tactics by carefully analyzing practical cases and combining them with her interpretation experience. It mainly includes making adequate pre-task preparation, catching the intention and main ideas conveyed by the speaker, and reconstructing the sentences according to the Chinese and English language habits. It is expected that the above-mentioned coping tactics will help interpreters better cope with the problems and difficulties encountered in the process of interpretation, improve the quality of interpretation, and further achieve the purpose of conveying communicative meaning through interpretation. It is hoped that this report can provide guidance and reference for novice interpreters to cope with interpreting issues in similar circumstances.
