This translation practice report chooses The Routledge Handbook of Stylistics(Chapter 25-26),edited by Michael Burke,as the transaltion material and Peter Newmark’s communicative translation theory as the theoretical basis to explore the problems and possible solutions in the translation of academic works. The Routledge Handbook of Stylistics provides a comprehensive introduction to key areas in the field of stylistics, and analyses the various methods and core issues of stylistic study in four sections. This book will not only help readers to learn about the latest research products in stylistics, but also provide reference for scholars in the field of stylistics.Different from general texts, academic monographs are highly professional and highly academic, which are also important references for researchers in this field. Therefore, the translation of academic monographs requires the translator not only to convey the original content comprehensively and accurately, but also to take into account the readability of the text in target language. The lexical difficulties of this project are mainly reflected in the translation of professional words and common words in specific contexts, while how to deal with long and difficult sentences with complex structure constitutes the syntactic difficulty of this project.Guided by Peter Newmark’s communicative translation theory, the translator focuses on how to adopt appropriate translation strategies and techniques to solve lexical and syntactic translation difficulties, thus achieving translation goals. In short, the translator uses free translation, word extension and part of speech conversion to solve the difficulties of lexical translation.Besides, the translator uses repetition, amplification, restructuring and inversion to solve the problems in syntactic translation. The translation practice makes the translator realize that when translating informative texts, adopting flexible translation methods is more helpful to accurately convey the information of the original text.As academic knowledge is professional and rigorous, the translator needs to accurately convey it to target language readers so as to break language barriers and promote academic exchanges.
