Since the spring and Autumn period and the Warring States period,Confucian culture has developed and occupied the mainstream position for more than 2000 years. It has a deep impact on Chinese civilization and spirit. Its content is broad and profound, and its thoughts have a long history. It is not only history that is proud of,but also contains its connotation.Initiated from the very beginning,Confucian scholars have always advocated "self-cultivation","family harmony","governing the country" and "pacifying the world".Self cultivation is regarded as the first step to realize political ideals, and has since accumulated strength for future social and political life.Xunzi widely accepted the academic thoughts of pre Qin scholars and inherited Confucius,Mencius and Confucianism. As a master at the end of the Warring States period,Xunzi attached great importance to personal moral cultivation and life style. His article "self cultivation" is a special discussion on this category and one of the earliest chapters to specifically talk about self cultivation.Man is the main body of society. At any time, the success or failure of contemporary society is closely related to people’s quality and self-cultivation.Xunzi’s self-cultivation thought is a relatively complete theoretical system integrating its logical premise, specific content, personality construction objectives and ways.It is important for individuals to gradually improve their moral quality, enhance their spiritual cultivation, form mainstream moral cognition and establish daily codes of conduct,It has a very important guiding role to cultivate the way to behave in society. This paper systematically investigated the specific context of Xunzi’s self-cultivation thought, stated the ideological premise and content, and focused on the ideal personality and specific methods: the first part, through the investigation of the Confucianism and various schools of thought before Xunzi, reformed them on the basis of inheritance, and finally got Xunzi’s ideological theory. The second part made a specific framework for the scope of Xunzi’s self-cultivation,determined the target vision, and separated the body and spirit,And pursue virtue and goodness with the characteristics of "increase and decrease";The third part "the theory of evil nature" is the basis of human nature, which is the most fundamental and significant feature of Xunzi’s self-cultivation thought. However,it complements the connotation of evil nature from multiple aspects, such as emotion and simplicity of nature,so it is necessary to straighten out and be good. Then it discusses Xunzi’s thought of "Rites",which starts from the origin to take rites as the standard of self-cultivation in specific fields; The fourth part discusses that the goal of self-cultivation to be pursued is "Scholar","gentleman" and even the highest level "sage",focusing on the connotation of gentleman; The fifth part is to put forward specific self-cultivation methods, such as "cultivating the mind and body","being cautious about being alone","learning and thinking" and so on.The times require everyone to constantly improve their spiritual realm, strengthen the accumulation of their own knowledge, constantly improve their own moral quality through practice, and constantly improve and develop themselves in the pursuit of ideal personality. Therefore,we should constantly tap the positive factors in Xunzi’s self-cultivation thought, combine it with the moral cultivation methods of the times, and establish a positive, healthy, upward, and universal self-cultivation view in the whole society,This will help to carry out individual moral construction under the framework of the integration of socialism with Chinese characteristics and excellent traditional Chinese culture, guide the social values, and urge people to realize their own values and make contributions to the society and the country with a positive attitude.
