| Guided by semantic grammar, this paper takes modal adverb "Shi Zai" as the research object.Through the investigation of Peking University Language Research Center(CCL)Modern Chinese Corpus and Beijing language and culture university(BCC)Modern Chinese Corpus, according to the logical order from discourse relevance to syntactic distribution to semantic extraction, this paper analyzes and studies the discourse relevance and semantic modality of“Shi Zai” layer by layer.First of all,we summarize the previous research achievements from four aspects: semantic definition, syntactic collocation, discourse analysis and diachronic evolution, and point out the existing problems: lack of accurate definition of grammatical meaning, lack of accurate positioning of syntactic distribution description and lack of comprehensive and concrete generalization of discourse analysis.Secondly,we extract and demonstrate the discourse relevance "unbearable frankness" according to the logical relevance of "outer turning point, inner causal chain" in which the adverb "Shi Zai" is located,as well as the semantic relevance of "background premise meaning, things contrary to one’s wishes, unbearable frankness and helplessness".Thirdly, according to the distribution characteristics of adverb "Shi Zai" in a single sentence and the co-occurrence of adverbs,we made it clear that "Shi Zai" chose declarative sentences and exclamatory sentences, excluded interrogative sentences and imperative sentences, and reflected that "Shi Zai" had certain requirements for subjectivity and degree meaning. Finally,by investigating the syntactic distribution, number and sequence of co-occurrence components of reality, the semantic features of reality are extracted and positively and negatively verified, namely, evaluation+subjectivity and proposition+high degree of meaning,as well as "forbearance in will, helplessness in emotion and sincerity in attitude" contained in the semantics of reality. On this basis, combined with the grammaticalization process of adverb "Shi Zai",it is proposed that the grammatical meaning of adverb "Shi Zai" is "to be frank and subjective after suffering out of control". |
