In the urban films of Shanghai during the “17-year” period after the China independence, there is an ambiguous relationship between the city’s urbanity and the revolution brought by the new regime. From confrontation, balance to collusion, the two have completed the reconstruction of Shanghai’s urban identity.Such changes in the relationship also reflect complex and diverse social problems. In this paper, the game relationship between urbanity and revolution in the same film is taken as the starting point.First of all,it focuses on the “17-year” film period with Shanghai as the story background,or the revolutionary dramas, emerging comedies and costume films created by Shanghai filmmakers as the analysis cases, and analyzes the changes in the relationship between urbanity and revolution in these three styles of films. Thus,it presents and reconstructs the different urban identity of Shanghai, and highlights the revolutionary thinking of Shanghai filmmakers.Secondly,on the basis of the overall introduction to the introduction and the key analysis in the first chapter, this paper still sticks to the previous perspective. In the second chapter, the reflective film, youth film,"new urban film" and the main theme film after reform and opening up are taken as the research text, and the discussion is focused on how the game between urban and revolutionary changes in those films when history is not present. The urban characteristics of Shanghai were criticized and reformed during the “17-year”.After reform and opening up,it changed from opposition to balance and even collusion with the revolution.Thirdly, this paper tries to place Shanghai film in the vision of Chinese film, from the perspective of Chinese film theory,to observe the increasingly bright and rich Shanghai characteristics of Shanghai film.It has developed from discrete to central regional film, which occupies an important position in Chinese film plate. Finally, this paper also elaborates on the play "Once Upon a Time in Shanghai",closely combining the paper with practice, presenting the author’s personal thoughts on Shanghai during the “17-year”period.
