Since the beginning of the new century,Shanghai has witnessed a series of new issues such as an ageing population,employment of young people and foreign immigrants,and the creation of Shanghai-themed films has also taken on new challenges.Film is a means of reflecting social development,and as women are an indispensable object of Shanghai films,studying women’s development and changes under the changing times from a female perspective can provide a more accurate grasp of the city’s unique cultural connotations.However,since the turn of the century,Shanghai films have been dominated by commercialism and genre,presenting a mixed picture of quality,and the portrayal of women in films suffers from monotonous characters and a lack of regional characteristics.The decline of Shanghai-themed films has led to a decline in scholarly research and a lack of systematic research on the portrayal of women.Based on academic theory,this paper analyses the image of women in Shanghai films,and then explores it in depth in relation to the creative practice of Shanghai film scripts.Through the analysis of the similarities and differences in the presentation of Shanghai themes by creators with different perspectives,the overall characteristics of Shanghai films are outlined,followed by a focus on Shanghai films from the new century onwards.Through the analysis of typical female images,it is concluded that the creative difficulties encountered by Shanghai films in the new century are:stereotyped female characterization,lack of localization and disconnection from Shanghai society.On the basis of this analysis,we have identified the missing female characters in Shanghai films,namely the local female characters based on reality and the atypical female characters who are unique.Based on the above research,the film is combined with<risibles amours>to explore the breakthrough of the multi-layered consciousness construction of female images from two research perspectives: female interpersonal relationships and female consciousness in Shanghai-themed films.Finally,the female images in <risibles amours> are dissected one by one to add to the missing female images in Shanghai-themed films.It is hoped that the above research will provide new ideas for exploring the portrayal of women in Shanghai films in the new century,and that more diverse and creative female characters will be presented in future Shanghai films.
