The Compassion Of Life: A Study Of The Graphic Arrangement And Visual Design Of The Compassion For Life Theme In Dunhuang Mural Stories

In this study,the term compassion refers to the compassion shown by Shakyamuni for all beings in the Buddhist nativity stories.Based on the 24 stories of compassion in the Dunhuang mural art researcher Xie Shengbao’s book Good Deeds in Past Lives: Dunhuang Mural Stories of Compassion,I have selected 12 stories that are relevant to the theme of compassion.The design of illustrations,books and short films related to the theme of compassion for life is a way to communicate the value of life and to raise awareness of the heritage and preservation of Dunhuang’s traditional culture.The Dunhuang murals are exquisitely beautiful and rich in connotation.Through analysis of Dunhuang frescoes and modern design,I have found that the use of Dunhuang frescoes as design elements is one of the main design approaches used by many designers,such as attaching Dunhuang motifs to products as visual elements and using them in garment design;and in these design fields,reconstructing and reconstructing Dunhuang elements is a more common design approach,allowing them to In addition to this,the author’s research has revealed that the design of Dunhuang is a very common method of reconstructing and recreating elements,allowing for a variety of visual styles.In addition,the author’s research has revealed a wealth of examples of Dunhuang pattern redesign in cultural and creative design.For example,the Dunhuang Museum’s creative design is a graphic redesign of Dunhuang murals with relevant elements extracted from them.These Dunhuang visual design works have some reference value for the design of Dunhuang compassionate image visuals.This project is based on the following steps: firstly,through the collection and collation of literature on the theme of compassion in Dunhuang’s mural stories,we will understand the essence of the theme of compassion in Dunhuang’s murals,and internalise the art of decorating Dunhuang’s compassionate images,as an important basis for our research;secondly,we will refine and reconstruct the traditional images and redesign them,so that they can be adapted to modern and diverse design styles.Thirdly,we will use our visual design vision to reproduce the value and compassion of life in Dunhuang’s murals,in order to explore the value of life and convey the meaning of compassion.
