| As a part of "non-event",non-narrative discourse mostly exists in non-fiction texts. However, with the change of the social environment in the 1980 s,the avant-garde wave came, and the fire of rebellion and reconstruction was ignited in the creation of novels. Both narrative methods and content expression were undergoing various "attempts".Under this opportunity, the non-narrative discourse in the novel also gained unprecedented vitality.Non-narrative discourse is closely related to the narrator and the author behind it.Under the vanguard of free expression,it has become the tangible carrier for the author to "invade" the text and show self-thought and emotion. Its existence cannot be ignored. This thesis takes non-narrative discourse as the entry point and Lin Bai’s novels with abundant non-narrative discourse resources as the research object.First of all, this thesis attempts to supplement the concept of non-narrative discourse with supplementary definitions. On this premise, this thesis examines the causes and forms of non-narrative discourse in Lin Bai’s novels as a whole,as well as the more radical individual expression, and tries to dig out the expression of Lin Bai’s individual expression desire in the narrative arrangement.By means of close reading, analysis and induction, and literature research, this thesis makes an in-depth study of the role of non-narrative discourse in the narrative function and expression of emotional value in Lin Bai’s novels, and explores the narrative personality and value transmission in the novels from the perspective of the narrator and even the author. From this idea, this thesis is mainly divided into the following parts:The introduction first focuses on the definition of non-narrative discourse, and makes supplementary definition through analysis and induction. At the same time,it combs the development of non-narrative discourse. The main body is divided into four chapters: The first chapter mainly discusses the mechanism of non-narrative discourse in Lin Bai’s novels. In terms of the causes, the first is Lin Bai’s personal creation preference, which determines the narrative structure and plot arrangement. The second is the narrative self in Lin Bai’s novels, namely the heterogeneous representation of the narrator, which is the direct producer of non-narrative discourse. The second chapter mainly discusses the existence form of non-narrative discourse in Lin Bai’s novels, namely the open non-narrative discourse, which is directly expressed by the narrator and mainly exists in the form of discussion and explanation. The hidden non-narrative discourse is hidden in the figure’s discourse and the figure of speech.Through the analysis and classification of the non-narrative discourse form, the exploration of the narrator’s expression mode is helpful for the next analysis of its function. The third chapter mainly discusses the narrative function of non-narrative discourse in Lin Bai’s novels. From subverting the truth of the story to constructing the truth of the narrative behavior;Make up for the incomplete plot caused by episodic narration;Through the voice of the narrator, the dialogue with readers can be more convenient, and the analysis can be carried out in three aspects directly affecting the readers. The fourth chapter mainly discusses the emotional function of non-narrative discourse in Lin Bai’s novels--individual expression.First of all,it focuses on Lin Bai’s publicity of female gender rights. In Lin Bai’s novels, the bias toward women and the more radical part of the presentation of women’s plight and survival disadvantage exist in the non-narrative discourse.Second, deviating from the traditional narrative mode, the redundant and meaningless words in the narrative are a kind of publicity to the narrative right; Finally, through the change of the content of non-narrative discourse in the process of turning, the narrative right has turned from publicity to convergence. In terms of gender, women’s bias has shifted to a more objective attitude. The conclusion summarizes the purpose and significance of studying Lin Bai’s novels with non-narrative discourse as the entry point, and also focuses on the limitations of excessive non-narrative discourse in Lin Bai’s novels. As a part of the novel that does not assume the function of plot, too much of this part is bound to damage the fluency of the story and increase the difficulty for readers to read. |
