Research On Media Presentation Of Female Images On The Cover Of People’s Pictorial

The CPC and the Chinese government have always attached great importance to women’s issues.For the third time,the 20 th National Congress of the CPC included in its report the contents of "Upholding the basic state policy of gender equality and protecting the legitimate rights and interests of women and children".As a national pictorial newspaper,People’s Pictorial has always paid great attention to women,female images and women’s development since its inception.Female figures occupy a large proportion in the cover of People’s Pictorial.This paper takes the cover women of 232 issues of People’s Illustrated from 1950 to 2022 as the research object to analyze the presentation of typical female images on the cover of People’s Illustrated in different periods,interpret the evolution of typical female images on the cover of People’s Illustrated,explore the deep reasons behind the changes,and ponder its practical significance to Chinese women,society and country.The first chapter introduces the research background and significance,literature review,research trends and methods,research innovation points and difficulties,etc.The second chapter introduces the core concepts and the main ideas of the research.The third chapter uses the content analysis method to analyze the data of 232 female figures on the cover of People’s Illustrated(1950-2022),and gives an in-depth description of the women on the cover from five dimensions: body image,professional image,knowledge image,social image and national image.Chapter four interprets the changes of typical female images of pictorial covers in different periods by combining the data analysis of the previous chapter.The fifth chapter explores the reasons for the change of the female image on the cover of People’s Illustrated(1950-2022)from the perspectives of society,media and women themselves.The sixth chapter reflects on the realistic significance of constructing the female image presented by the cover of People’s Pictorial.Chapter seven concludes the thesis.It is found that the female image on the cover of People’s Pictorial has undergone a historical evolution from 1950 to 1977: the labor image in socialist construction,from 1978 to 1991: the stylistic image after reform and opening up,from 1992 to2001: the star image in the period of market economy,and from 2002 to 2022: the multiple images in the era of globalization.Generally speaking,the change of the female image on the cover of People’s Illustrated actually reflects the change of Chinese women’s ideas and status since the founding of the People’s Republic of China,as well as the great changes in Chinese society,which has positive significance for women,society and the country.
