Cave No.48 in Bozilike Grottoes was built during the Qochu Uighur period, and the image of its front wall has been identified as the image of “Visiting Buddha”.It is a Buddhist biography. It tells the story that Indra asked Pancasikha to visit the Buddha with him.The image of the“Visiting Buddha” first originated from the carving of Indian construction and spread to Qiuci in the 3rd century AD or earlier. In Qiuci,it was mainly drawn after the Theravada classic and traces of its plastic painting still exist on the front wall of several central pillars. The image painting style of “Visiting Buddha” on the front wall of cave 48 in Bozilike Grottoes show the Uighur art style. The image motif of Qiuci’s grottoes, the image elements of Qochu’s grottoes and the central plains grottoes in the image show that the image of cave No.48 in Bozilike Grottoes is integrated and accommodated between the local culture,Hexi culture and the area south of Yellow River culture. This further confirms the cultural exchanges and integration between ancient Gaochang and different regions. This paper starts with the re-identification of the image of the “Visiting Buddha” on the front wall of the main chamber of cave No.48 in Bozilike Grottoes, and focuses on the analysis of its image structure and image elements, the idea of image rendering and the function of the cave.In the first chapter, combined with the grottoes group and the historical evolution of the north section of the third district, the origin of transforming cave No.48 from the Qiuci’s style monk’s room into a square cave is introduced, and the function of cave No.48 is analyzed as a buddhist temple with worship as the main function. The second chapter combines the classical text and image identification basis of the “Visiting Buddha” and the “Buddha’s interpretation of the Cave” of the predecessors, and re-interprets the “Emperor’s interpretation of the Cave”image of the shop in the way of text picture reading, and holds that the “Visiting Buddha” image of the cave No.48 should mainly refer to the translation of ?akra-pra?na-sūtra by Fa Xian. The third chapter mainly studies the image structure and image elements of “Visiting Buddha” in cave No.48.Compared with the image of the “Visiting Buddha” in Qiuci’s grottoes,it is believed that the image structure of the “Visiting Buddha” in cave No.48 in Bozilike Grottoes still inherits the “idol” composition form of the images of the Qiuci’s people, and the image patterns of animals and plants,Pancasikha and Indra heaven in the meditation scene of the image elements have more native characteristics of Uighur. At the same time,by comparing the related image elements of North Court West Great Temple,Hexi’s grottoes and the front wall of cave No.48 in Bozilike Grottoes, the paper holds that the Indra’s costume is a typical Uighur costume, and the Indra holding a censer and the Pancasikha holding the Konghou came from the image style of Hexi’s grottoes. The fourth chapter mainly discusses the thought of making statues in cave No.48 in Bozilike Grottoes of “Visiting Buddha”.Influenced by the thought of the image of "only rites and shakya" in Qiuci’s grottoes, cave No.48 in Bozilike Grottoes retains the thought of the dominant position of the image of “Visiting Buddha” in Qiuci’s grottoes.Meanwhile, the cave is covered in the meditation thought of Mahayana system, forming a cave that combines meditation and worship. This is closely related to the Central Plains Buddhist cultural thoughts.
