Abstract/Summary:
Philip Dick is an important writer in the history of American science fiction literature.His works have won the John Campbell Memorial Award,Nebula Award and other important science fiction literature awards.In most of his works,the imagination of technology and the future was born out of an American society of frequent foreign wars,increased internal control and rapid technological development.Philip Dick expressed concern and political concern in the real world through his science fiction works.This paper selects Philip Dick’s two novels of most research value,Do Bionic Men Dream of Electric Sheep?","The Man in the High Castle" and a number of short stories as the research object,combined with the life political philosophy theories of Foucault and Agamben,based on the analysis of the text content,discusses the survival predicament caused by the intervention of political factors in the sacred human group life,and how the people resist,finally summarizes the humanistic reflection reflected in Philip Dick’s science fiction.The thesis is divided into three parts:introduction,main body four chapters and conclusion.The introduction introduces Philip Dick’s life and historical status,summarizes the research status at home and abroad,and introduces the source of the topic and the purpose,significance,method and content of the research.The first chapter introduces the theoretical basis of this paper,summarizes the development process of life politics theory,and introduces in detail the disciplinary power and life power in Foucault’s life politics view,as well as the key concepts of "divine man","exceptional state" and "community coming at any time" in Agamben’s life politics view.The second chapter analyzes the political repression in the texts of the two novels,clarifies how the disciplinary power and life power suppress the public in space,body and spirit,and points out that ordinary people are trapped in the survival predicament of personal identity crisis under such repression.The third chapter focuses on the rebellion written by various groups in the two novels,describes the subjectivity reconstruction of different characters in the predicament of survival,deeply analyzes the prototypes and symbolic images representing resistance in the text,and tries to find the way to liberation of life.The fourth chapter analyzes the combination of Philip Dick’s humanistic thinking on totalitarianism,science and technology,false community and life politics theory,showing Dick’s deep insight into the state power mechanism to control and oppress the people,his contradictory thoughts on the increasingly complex relationship between man and machine,and his vigilance against the sovereign power to divide the people and whitewash the peace.The conclusion makes an overall summary of the main points of the paper,points out the practical significance and social significance of this research,and makes a brief description of the future research direction and significance of this topic.This paper summarizes the various dilemmas of people’s life under the suppression of political power in Philip Dick’s science fiction,and the efforts of the oppressed people to rebuild their subjectivity in order to resist the suppression,and makes appeals and warnings to the readers.Therefore,it can be seen that the life and political issues presented in Philip Dick’s novels are undoubtedly realistic and meaningful in The Times.
