The remains of 197 dead miners are kept in the Liaoyuan Miners’ Tomb Exhibition Hall.As one of the important ruins of the Japanese enslavement and brutalisation of Chinese labourers, the remains have important historical value and educational significance. As a result of environmental factors such as soil, light, temperature and humidity during preservation, the remains have deteriorated to varying degrees. In order to better protect the remains and adopt appropriate conservation means according to the actual condition of the remains, this thesis provides a comprehensive understanding of the current state of preservation of miners’ remains through environmental and ontological assessment, analysis and testing. The investigation found water seepage, localised soil collapse, moss growth and rodent holes and insect erosion in the display hall and display room where the remains were located. The remains suffer from weathering, cracking, surface adherence, microbial growth and other conditions of disease. In this thesis, the soil microorganisms Aspergillus versicolor and Acremonium charticola were identified and migrated to the remains by means of high-throughput sequencing, three essential oil-based inhibition agents, three biological inhibition agents and three isothiazolinone-based inhibition agents were selected. The difference in inhibition was assessed by measuring the minimum inhibitory concentration(MIC)of each inhibitory material. The results showed that all the nine selected inhibitors cinnamon essential oil、geranium oil、peppermint essential oil、ε-PL、pimaricin、nystatin、Prevebtol D7、Rocima342 and Kathon CG all effective against Aspergillus versicolor.Eight of the nine inhibition agents, except nystatin, inhibited Acremonium charticola.Prevebtol D7 was finally selected as an inhibitor for the remains of miners killed in the miners’ graves in Liaoyuan and for the soil by combining the inhibitory effects of nine inhibitors and their feature. The conservation site has been improved by ventilating the display hall and display room, rodent and insect control, soil suppression, soil consolidation and moss removal to improve the environment of the miners’ graves. The remains are also subjected to surface cleaning,anti-mould and anti-bacterial operations, and the reinforcement and bonding of the remains. The results show that after a series of conservation processes, the hardness of the skeletal remains has increased significantly, the gaps on the surface of the skeletal remains have been filled and the bone texture has been restored. The research in this paper has,to a certain extent, solved the problems encountered in the selection of inhibition materials for skeletal remains and other bone remains, providing theoretical guidance for the precise inhibition protection of skeletal remains conservation projects,as well as providing reference and reference for the conservation of bone remains.
