A Study On Costume And Metaphor In The Whole Tang Poetry

Tang poetry,Wang Guowei called "the literature of a generation",has produced a large number of famous artists,excellent works,the content of everything.Together with poetry,the Tang Dynasty costume shines in its brilliant culture.Under the background of the integration of the Hu and Han dynasties and the simultaneous development of the three religions,the Tang Dynasty costumes showed the characteristics of eclecticism.Compared with the past,the colors,shapes and styles were more abundant,which were reflected in the description of the costumes in the Whole Tang Poems.According to incomplete statistics,there are more than 9,600 poems in the Whole Tang Poetry that involve the description of clothing,including not only the description of wearing,but also the description of making and sending clothes,which concerns the body,life,social life and aesthetic concepts.In these descriptions of clothes,poets often use clothes as cultural symbols,or refer to characters,gender and identity,or symbolize feelings and aspirations.According to the "conceptual metaphor" proposed by Lakoff in The Metaphor We Live By,it can be regarded as the construction of clothing as one conceptual system to another conceptual system,which projects clothing as the original metaphor to numerous target domains,and needs to be grasped comprehensively from semantic,sentence,context and other aspects of the whole poem.However,there are few achievements in the research on clothing in the Whole Tang Poetry,and there is no involvement in clothing making and sending,and the systematic research on clothing metaphor can be said to be blank.Therefore,it is both feasible and necessary to discuss the clothing(including making and sending clothes)and metaphor in the Whole Tang Poetry.This paper mainly includes three parts:The first part defines clothing from a broad perspective,mainly studying the description of clothing in "The Whole Tang Poetry",showing the Tang Dynasty clothing rich diversity,eclectic characteristics and bright,exquisite and luxurious aesthetic fashion;The description of garment making reveals the hard work of garment making and the sorrow of Weaver girl,and expands the connotation of "bestie complaint" and "palace complaint" since the Six Dynasties by using the image of ramming clothes.Send clothes description,explore the inner feelings of borrowing things.The second part,on the basis of defining metaphor in a broad sense,analyzes the clothing metaphor in the Whole Tang Poetry from four aspects: metonymy,ontology metaphor,container metaphor and structure metaphor.This paper summarizes four types of clothing metonymy with "propriety as the center",clothing ontology metaphor with "Confucianism and Taoism as the center",container metaphor with "aesthetic bearing" as the function,and structural metaphor with "integration of mind and matter" as the purpose.It also points out that the internal construction of clothing metaphor in the Poems of the Whole Tang Dynasty is manifested as a descending metaphor of existence chain,and expounds that its clothing metaphor presents the interaction of metonymy and metaphor.Most are based on the characteristics of metonymy metaphor.The third part summarizes the aesthetic significance of costume description and costume metaphor from five aspects: the prominence of life aesthetics of civilians and themselves,the attention of body aesthetics to pleasing and pleasing oneself in the description of female costume,the publicity of costume metaphor to aesthetic sentiment,the enrichment of literary concept and the expansion of literary criticism of "costume metaphor".
