Under the background of economic globalization and world multi-polarization,English has become a tool for communicators to express local culture in the process of communication.In this case,General Secretary Xi Jinping puts forward a series of discussion on the problem of cultivating young people’s awareness of Chinese culture,emphasizing the local culture as the object and spreading Chinese culture.At the same time,the English Curriculum Standards for Senior High School published in 2017 advocated "Core quality of English subject",which mainly includes the following four aspects: language ability,cultural awareness,quality of thinking,and learning ability,highlighting the necessity of cultural awareness cultivation.Compared with the High School English Curriculum Standards released in 2003,the 2017 edition of the High School English Curriculum Standards further points out that high school English teaching should take into account both the learning of students’ cultural knowledge and the formation of value orientation.Therefore,it is extremely important to investigate the integration of Chinese culture and English teaching.Only by understanding the current situation of Chinese culture teaching in high school English reading class can we put forward effective construction for the realization of relevant goals in the later “Curriculum Standards for General high school”.It has been six years since the high School English Curriculum Standards were issued in 2017.What is the current level of cultural accumulation among high school students.Based on the theory of cultural response and cross-cultural communication,the researchers conducted an investigation from three aspects through the definition of culture in the Curriculum Standards for High School English and the requirements for the cultivation of high school students’ cultural awareness.Teachers and students’ understanding of Chinese culture in the2019 English textbooks for People’s Education,the integration of foreign language teaching and cultural teaching,and the implementation of the integration of Chinese culture in the process of senior high school English reading teaching.This study takes4 teachers and 108 students from a high school in H City,Hubei Province as investigation samples to conduct investigation on the current situation of cultural teaching among high school students,in order to find out problems and put forward suggestions.At the same time,4 teachers were also interviewed for the accuracy of the research resultsAnalyzing survey data and interview transcripts,researchers found that first of all,in the past six years,cultural teaching has played a certain role in the cultivation of students.Students have reasonable reserve of cultural knowledge,and at the same time they show a positive attitude towards the teaching of Chinese culture and great interest in learning Chinese culture.Secondly,English teachers are much more inclined to integrate Chinese culture into high school English reading teaching.However,researchers also found some problems in the integration of English teaching and cultural teaching.We should add the content of Chinese culture in high school English textbooks and reform the way of integrating Chinese culture into high school English reading teaching;We should improve of high school students’ cultural response and high school students’ ability to export Chinese culture.In this regard,researchers put forward relevant suggestions by analysis of the survey problems: We should add the elements of Chinese culture into English textbooks while narrow the gap between the high expectation of teachers and the lack of cultural knowledge of some teachers by improving teachers’ cultural awareness;We can also cultivate students’ intercultural communication ability and promote the development of high school students’ cultural response.
