Study On Folding Fan Painting By Female Painters In The Ming Dynasty

During the Yongle period of the Ming Dynasty,a large number of Japanese folding fans were introduced to the palace,and the imitation of folding fans in the Ming Dynasty gradually spread from the Neifu to the people.Compared with the folding fans of the Song and Yuan dynasties,the folding fans of the Ming dynasty were more exquisite in workmanship and diverse in types,popular among various social classes,especially among the literati group,forming the elegant fan culture.Folding fan painting has also become a common form of Ming dynasty literati painting.At the same time,due to economic prosperity and open social atmosphere,the number of female painters mainly consisting of ladies and famous prostitutes surged.In the mid to late Ming Dynasty,female painters not only used folding fans in their daily lives,but also created a large number of folding fan paintings.These fan paintings,as an important branch of female painting in the Ming Dynasty,formed a unique artistic style.The focus of this article is to explore the theme meaning,style characteristics,and reasons for the formation of folding fan paintings by female painters in the Ming Dynasty.This article starts from the intersection of the two dimensions of Ming Dynasty folding fans and Ming Dynasty female painting research,and systematically studies the development and creative situation of Ming Dynasty calligraphy and painting folding fans and folding fan culture among the talented group.Against the backdrop of mature folding fan craftsmanship and prosperous folding fan culture in the Ming Dynasty,female painters of different identities,with creative intentions such as self entertainment,socializing,and fame,developed a preference for themes such as flowers and butterflies,orchids and bamboo,and mountains and rivers in folding fan paintings,forming two styles: exquisite beauty and straightforward innocence.The collective creative tendency behind this artistic style is closely related to the identity and experience of female painters and the artistic atmosphere of literati painting.This article analyzes the artistic characteristics of folding fan paintings by female painters in the Ming Dynasty from different perspectives,and explores their impact on future generations in a longitudinal manner,in order to gain a more comprehensive understanding of the painting of female painters in the Ming Dynasty and folding fan paintings in the Ming Dynasty.
