| In recent years,the research on meta-cognitive strategies has been a hot topic at home and abroad.Among them,there are many researches on the influence of meta-cognitive strategies on various English proficiency tests,but few researches on their correlation.Meanwhile,as a test method to assess students’ reading and language ability,English cloze test is widely used in various foreign language examinations.More and more scholars have begun to explore the factors affecting senior high school students’ cloze test performance,but most of the studies are literature studies,and the empirical research basis is relatively weak.Based on this,the author conducted a study on the correlation between the use of meta-cognitive strategies and senior high school students’ cloze test performance.This study attempts to address the following three research questions: 1.What is the overall level of meta-cognitive strategies and the distribution frequency of each sub-strategy used by senior high school students in cloze test? 2.What’s the correlation between senior high school students’ use of meta-cognitive strategies and their cloze test performance? 3.What are the specific characteristics of meta-cognitive strategies used by high score students in cloze test?Questionnaire,test and interview methods were used in this study.The research participants of the questionnaire survey are students from five classes in Grade one of a senior high school in Tianjin.The research participants of the interview are the top eight students with the highest scores in cloze test.Through data analysis,the results of this study are as follows:(1)Senior one students use meta-cognitive strategies in the process of cloze test,and the overall use level is high.Among them,the frequency of planning strategy and self-evaluating strategy is relatively high.(2)Students’ use of meta-cognitive strategies was positively correlated with their cloze test performance;(3)According to regression analysis,the use of selective attention strategy has the highest correlation with cloze test performance,followed by self-monitoring strategy.Based on the interview data,it can be seen that students with high scores have a strong awareness of using selective attention strategies and self-monitoring strategies.They also good at using planning strategies and self-evaluating strategies.Some specific suggestions are put forward for senior high school English teachers and students: teachers should strengthen the understanding of meta-cognitive strategies and guide students to develop practice plans based on their actual situation of cloze test;teachers,as guides and facilitators,regularly provide differentiated guidance for students’ difficulties in cloze test practice.Students should establish the awareness of using meta-cognitive strategies,understand their shortcomings in the cloze test,and actively make plans before the cloze test,monitor the time and speed during the cloze test process,and conduct self-evaluation after the cloze test. |
