Exploring The Authenticity And Artistic Nature In Documentary Creation

Chinese documentary has gone through more than half a century since its birth,and the discussion on the authenticity and artistry of documentary has never stopped and there is no conclusion.Authenticity is the essential attribute of documentary,and artistic expression endows documentary with certain aesthetic connotation.The economic development and the marketization of documentaries provide a broader space for the creation and development of documentaries.The development process of documentaries is the process of constantly exploring the specific meanings and standards of "authenticity" and "artistry " as the principles of documentary creation.In this process,although creators and theoretical researchers in each period have made different degrees of discussion and reflection on the authenticity and artistry of documentaries,in the development process of documentaries,there are still many creators who,in order to cater to the aesthetic taste of the audience,excessively subjective beautification,ignoring the objective authenticity of reality and weakening the transmission of cultural information.What’s more,some works merely show the superficial appearance of reality objectively,lack the subjective initiative of creation,lack the comprehensive theme intention and the artistic treatment of the dominant organization of the material,resulting in the lengthening and fragmentation of the content and information of the film,all of which go against the original intention and mission of documentary creation.This paper firstly combs the evolution process of authenticity and artistry in the century-old development of documentaries from a macro perspective.Secondly,by analyzing the theoretical basis and practical characteristics of the relationship between authenticity and artistry in the process of documentary creation,it further points out that authenticity and artistry in documentary creation are indispensable and cannot be coordinated and unified.Finally,combined with the specific practice process of documentary creation,the specific creation process of my personal work "Vicissitudes of Life·Tang Tomb Exploration" based on the unity between authenticity and artistry is elaborated in detail,which proves that the unity of objective truth and artistic aesthetics is inseparable from documentary creation.This research is not only conducive to improving the documentary function and aesthetic connotation.It also makes a deeper discussion on the theory of the relationship between authenticity and artistry of documentary.
