Sartre,as the epitome of existentialism, has received much attention from scholars both at home and abroad.Previously, people’s research on Sartre focused on the core content of existentialism, such as self action and freedom, the concept of freedom, existence and essence, while ignoring Sartre’s concept of temporality.Although Sartre’s temporality is not a self acting ontological structure,it is a self acting way of existence. It has always been a common pursuit of philosophers to know the nature of things,so the analysis of Sartre’s concept of temporality is also crucial.Although Sartre was a French philosopher, his ideas were heavily influenced by German philosophy and were also characterized by obscurity, making the concept of temporality even more elusive.Given the above, although exploring Sartre’s concept of temporality is fraught with difficulties, due to its crucial position in Sartre’s existentialism,we need to explore the concept of temporality and its related topics with a spirit of exploration that is not afraid of floating clouds. There are countless discussions about time both in ancient and modern times, both in China and abroad.Everyone has a perception of time in their hearts, and systematic research and discussion on time can be traced back to ancient Greece.Aristotle, based on the physical spirit of scientific rationality, discovered that time is closely related to motion;Medieval theologians used irrational religious psychology as the starting point for time issues. With the development of science and technology, time has gradually become a widely accepted external objective measurement standard and tool, requiring the use of unified measurement tools to ensure a unified pace of time worldwide.Improving the accuracy of measurement tools is a common pursuit of people. After people repeatedly measure time, the feeling that time brings to people is more of anxiety. At this time, time is no longer a convenient tool for life, but a ruler who makes people tremble and anxious in the ticking of the clock. Therefore, those who are racing on the path of questioning time, please stop their steps and look back and think about what perspective we should start from if we want to explore the temporality, otherwise it is just a completely different story. In fact, what we need to study must be the temporality related to people,so let’s first examine ourselves, that is,what are people? What kind of person do you want to become? Because what humans are often guides the interpretation of time itself, the analysis of freedom and self action based on existentialism is the most perfect explanation for the nature of time itself.Following this approach, with the ultimate goal of exploring the temporality of existentialism, and through the interpretation of "Being and Nothingness" and other works by Sartre,we strive to outline a "picture" of a person’s continuous transcendence in the world, thereby presenting Sartre’s three-dimensional structure of time and presenting his view of time dynamically and statically. In summary, the entire text consists of four major chapters. In the introduction,a brief introduction is given to the reason and significance of the topic selection in this article.By introducing the current research status of domestic and foreign scholars, the difficulties and research weaknesses that need to be addressed in this article are identified. In the first chapter,we sort out the view of time of Western philosophers before Sartre. From this,we can clearly see that people have different views on time in different historical periods, and we can clearly see the differences of time problems in each period,as well as the difficulties they face and the problems that need to be solved. The second part introduces the social background and theoretical origins of Sartre’s temporality, and defines and explains in detail the connotation of temporality from the three-dimensional structure and two forms of temporality. The third part introduces Sartre’s existentialist ideas based on his concept of temporal existentialism. The fourth part is an evaluation of Sartre’s temporality, analyzing his contribution to the history of philosophy and objectively viewing his view on time.
