| The Four Annals of Ganshui are composed of eight volumes of Ganshui Annals compiled by Chang Tang in Shaoding period of Southern Song Dynasty,nine volumes of Continued Ganshui Annals compiled by Dong Gu in Jiajing period of Ming Dynasty,twelve volumes of New Annals of Ganshui comliled by Fang Rong in Daoguang period of Qing Dynasty,and two volumes of Supplementary Records of Ganshui Annals compiled by Cheng Xuyuan in the Pepublic of China.This townwship chronicle focuses on recording the establishment and evolution,local customs,mountains and rivers,natural products and other important contents of Ganpu Town,Haiyan County,Jiaxing City,Zhejiang Province.At present,there is little overall concern and research on these four local chronicles in academic circles.In oeder to fuether understand the value of these four local chronicles,this paper sorts out these local chronicles in terms of philology,and provides literature reference for further study of township chronicles in academic circles.The main content of this paper is divided into four parts:The first part: Introducing the compilation origin,compilers,books and editions of the Four Annals of Ganshui.The compilation of Ganshui Annals was based on the continuous downward movement of the compilation scope at that time,the economic prosperity and cultural properity in the south of the Yangtze River in the Southern Song Dynasty,and the stable establishment and evolution of Ganpu Town,which also provided a model for the compilation of Continued Ganshui Annals,New Annals of Ganshui and Supplementary Records of Ganshui Annals.The editors of the four local chronicles are all familiar with local anecdotes,and the life stories of the editors are only found in a few words in the chronicles.With regard to the version of The Four Annals of Ganshui,except Changtang’s Ganshui,which has been cieculated for a long time,there are many versions handed down from gengerationn.The most common versions of the other three chronicles are Ganshui Annals Compilation.The second part: Summarizing the writing style and compiling characteristics of the Four Annals of Ganshui.The style adopted by the Four Annals of Ganshui is a compendium or a combination of plain and compendium.The outline is clear and the classification is rigorous,which is intended to reflect the compliation characteristics such as highlighting regional culture,citing rich literature,and illustrating pictures and texts.The third part: Analyzing the evolution of the compilation idea of the Four Annals of Ganshui.There are both inheritance and development in the compilation concept of the Four Annals of Ganshui.While adhering to the compilation concept of detailing the present and focusing on enlightenment,according to different characteristics of the times,its writing methods and compilation ideas have also changed accoedingly.The fourth part: Exploring the historical date value and shortingcomings of the Four Annals of Ganshui.The value of the Four Annals of Ganshui lies in that it records the historical date of Ganpu Town since the Southern Song Dynasty,which are not found in other historical books.The historical date about geography,politics,coastal defense,economy and culture can provide information for the compilation and research of early township chronicles and the exploration of the rise and fall of grassroots.The shortcomings of the Four Annals of Ganshui are mainly reflected in the neglect of commercial information in the chronicles,the improper simplification of the chapters and the errors in copying and publishing. |
