This report is based on the English to Chinese translation of excerpts from the book Ethics for the Very Young: A Philosophy Curriculum for Early Childhood Education. The book,as a practical product of preschool education, involves early philosophy(ethics)education which is forward-looking,innovative and humanistic in the field of preschool education. The excerpts,Chapter Two and Chapter Three, cover the theories of philosophy, psychology and preschool education, and present the reader with practical examples of integrating philosophy into early education, therefore are of high learning and reference value. The German functionalist theorist Reiss classified texts into four types including informative texts, expressive texts, operative texts and audio-media texts. The source text(ST)introduces and presents the perspectives, knowledge and practical cases of early philosophy education and the language is objective, depictive, logical and professional. It is of informative text type. Therefore,Reiss’ s text typology theory is adopted as the guiding theory for the translation practice. The translator flexibly employs varied translation methods(zero translation, variation translation, literal translation and liberal translation),multiple techniques(addition, omission, borrowing, annotation, division and shifts),and cohesive devices to address translation difficulties at lexical, syntactic and textual levels,so as to accurately convey the information in the ST with a professional, concise, logical, and readable translation. The translator hopes that the translation may provide references for early education researchers and teachers in China to develop philosophy curricula appropriate for young children in China and that the report may provide some inspiration for studying the translation of informative texts on early philosophy education.
