Abstract/Summary:
This thesis is a translation report with the book Helping Adults to Grow Up,by Michael S.Broder,as the source text.In this book,Stage Climbing(an innovative seven-stage developmental model)is presented, which can be as a new tool to help practitioners recognize cognitions, attitudes and behaviors– typical of different life stages and thus levels of maturity– in order to select the most effective treatment interventions with adult clients. This translation project can provide some reference for the development of cognitive-behavioral therapy in China, enrich the translator’s translation experience of informative texts and improve the ability and knowledge in the field of the psychological discipline. This translation project consists of the original English text, the Chinese translation, and the translation report. It takes George Steiner’s hermeneutic translation theory as the guiding theory, that is,the fourfold motion of translation:trust, aggression, incorporation, and compensation, adopting translation methods such as inversion, conversion, and amplification,to analyze the problems encountered in the translation process and propose corresponding solutions. This translation project is expected to help accumulate experience and summarize shortcomings to obtain improvement.
