The study of the image of a new socialist person in the seventeen year novels is a c lassic issue in the field of contemporary Chinese literature. With the gradual diversificat ion of literary research paths since the new era, this issue continues to gain room for rei nterpretation from a new theoretical perspective. On the one hand, writers strive to resp ond to the inquiries of high-level literary and artistic circles, and on the other hand, they are aware of the greatness of their era and the historical mission they have undertaken. Therefore, shaping the brilliant and heroic new image of the socialist era has become an important task of literature and art in the seventeen years. With the joint efforts of critics and writers,a large number of new socialist figures resonating with the times have eme rged in the novel text. From the perspective of character activity space, they usually co me from urban or rural areas;Judging from their identity, the newcomers are dominated by the role of workers, peasants, and soldiers.Although intellectuals are marginalized,t hey have not yet completely disappeared from the narrative. The construction of the new image permeates the aesthetic purport of the author’s main body, but it should be noted that it is closely related to the series of socialist practi ces carried out after the founding of New China. The imagination of new people in the t ext is essentially an attempt by writers to reconstruct a new subjectivity based on the rel evant characteristics of China’s socialist modernization practice, and this process of ima gination is bound to be influenced by various concepts of the times and take on a compl ex and tangled appearance. Therefore, how to restore the image of a new person to the s pecific context in which it was born with a scientific and rational attitude and examine it,so as to display the deep ideological texture and power mechanism behind the text imag ination as much as possible,so as to avoid the purposive narration caused by starting fro m a preset position becomes the fundamental position of this study. This thesis mainly uses the method of discourse analysis to establish the relevance of literary history, social history, and ideological history, and to place the shaping of the image of new socialist figures in the novel in the historical movement of China’s sociali st modernization. This paper focuses on how the two concepts of "revolution"(the class demands of continuous revolution under the guidance of Marxism)and "modernity"(th e common pursuit of human beings in the process of pursuing modernity)in the practice of Chinese path to modernization, which are both interrelated and conflicting, permeate the imagination of new people at the text level, and then examine the unique exploratio n and experience of China’s socialist modernization in this historical period. The thesis c onsists of three parts: introduction, conclusion, and body, which is divided into four cha pters. The first chapter discusses how the imagination of the nation state and the deman ds of class revolution constitute the logic and motivation of the narrative of the new soci alist. It is pointed out that modern newcomers,as historical concepts, are rooted in the n ationalistic narrative of China’s longing for national independence and prosperity since t he late Qing Dynasty. The spread of Marxist class discourse in China and the acquisitio n of cultural leadership have made the image of a new socialist person in the seventeen year novel not only a historical extension of nationalistic logic, but also a product of cla ss discourse. The entanglement and correlation between the two ideas constitute a comp lex landscape of new people as historical subjects. At the same time,it is noted how the writer’s own cultural experience affects the authenticity of the new image. The second c hapter focuses on how the subjectivity of the newcomers is established and presents disc ontinuous characteristics under the guidance of the guide. To reveal the important functi on of the plot of "leading the way-identifying",which is commonly found in the novels of the seventeen years,in the construction of the new person’s subjectivity. The image o f new people born in the early days of New China generally regards increasing producti on and income as the goal of action. However,as class struggle has become the central t heme of the era since the late 1950 s,the subjective connotation of new people also focu ses on the heroic struggle against hostile classes. The third chapter focuses on the revolu tionary desire discourse in the novel’s narrative, exploring how and why material enjoy ment and love pursuit are described as centrifugal forces that contradict political ideolog y.However, the writing of desire has not completely disappeared in the image of the ne w person, but has obtained limited expression space by following political norms, result ing in the formation of new desire discourse. The fourth chapter discusses the criticism and reshaping of intellectual newcomers. After the founding of New China, the "May 4t h" style intellectual narrative that publicized individuality was criticized as a petty bour geoisie or bourgeois literary and artistic line and lost its legitimacy.Although the "Doub le Hundred" policy once briefly returned to the historical stage,it was ultimately only a flash in the pan.The problem is that Chinese path to modernization is inseparable from modern knowledge and the participation of intellectuals,so how to rebuild a new subjec t of knowledge that meets the needs of political ideology has become a problem that mu st be considered by the literary and art circles. The image of a group of new intellectuals from the backgrounds of workers, peasants, and soldiers emerged from the historical su rface under the call of the hot era. They possess both modern scientific knowledge and a firm proletarian revolutionary stance, which is the unity of revolutionary cause("red")and modern production("specialty").Socialist practice not only points to changes in the political and economic fields, but also includes a series of new changes in the ideologic al field such as new cultural forms and the reshaping of human subjectivity. In this histo rical movement, literature constructs a new historical subject in the form of artistic fictio n,providing an ideal mirror image for the real world. The modernization of human bein gs is the core link of any modernization practice.Today,"Chinese path to modernization" has become a hot word in the academic circle. The re interpretation of the image of so cialist newcomers in the seventeen year novels undoubtedly provides a perfect incision f or examining this unique modernization path. |
