| At this stage,storytelling has become a major form of expression in character documentaries,and it is becoming an essential strategy for documentary viewing and storytelling.The work is also used as a backdrop to validate many of the ideas in the text.In the creation of Towards the Fire,the feature film approach played a key role in the creation of the film,from the initial inspiration for filming,to the excavation of material,to the construction of the story and video narrative,including the post-production editing,and by fusing theory and the aesthetic characteristics of the character documentary,a comprehensive and in-depth exploration of ways and means to effectively improve the storytelling,fun and spectacle of the character documentary,uniting knowledge and practice.In this way,it provides a degree of reference for the expression of storytelling in character documentaries.In the introductory section of this paper,the purpose,significance,methodology and innovations of this research are explained.The first chapter describes the relationship between character documentary and storytelling,including the need for character documentary storytelling and the distinction between character documentary and feature film storytelling.The second chapter analyses the strategies of storytelling in character documentaries,mainly from three aspects: story construction,video narrative and editing techniques,in which story construction is discussed through three levels: subject matter,characters and plot,in which video narrative is discussed in terms of the narrative mode of feature films and the flexible use of video language,and in which editing techniques are discussed in terms of rhythm,music and suspense design.The third chapter is an analysis of character documentary storytelling.The third chapter is a reflection and inspiration on the storytelling expression of character documentaries,mainly reflecting on the appropriate use of "story" in the storytelling of character documentaries.The second chapter discusses the advantages and disadvantages of storytelling in documentaries about people.The fourth chapter elaborates on the author’s use of storytelling in the documentary,as well as the gains and shortcomings of the whole process,in the hope of providing some inspiration for more documentary filmmakers. |
