| In the new era,China’s international influence has greatly increased.As the Communist Party of China(CPC)is the leadership core for the cause of socialism with Chinese characteristics,great importance is attached to building her image.The CPC’s image refers to her objective existence and external overall performance,which is highly concerned by the government and academia.Xi Jinping: The Governance of China,covering a wide range of fields,systematically presents the scientific system and latest achievements of CPC’s innovations.It is an important window for the international community to understand contemporary China and fully reflects the image of the Communist Party of China(CPC)in the new era.Therefore,by studying the English version of Xi Jinping: The Governance of China,a systematic summary of its translation strategies and the image of the Communist Party of China(CPC)is conducive to promoting the interdisciplinary dialogue between English linguistics and political party’s image research.With the help of corpus linguistics and systemic functional linguistics,positive discourse analysis is applied to analyze the selected corpus(the English versions of Xi Jinping: The Governance of China(Volume 1 to 3)and State of the Union Address(2012-2020)).With Citespace and Ant Conc,the thesis makes a comprehensive and systematic study of the language characteristics and the ideological framework shown in Xi Jinping: The Governance of China.The main conclusions are as follows:(1)In Xi Jinping: The Governance of China,high-frequency nouns are “law”,“people”,“party”,“development”,“reform”,and “cooperation”.On the one hand,they help CPC to have a good image of insisting on people-oriented principle and reform and innovation.On the other hand,they help CPC to build an image of consolidating justice in an all-round way and a good international image of Community of Shared Future for Mankind.(2)Among the high-frequency verbs,“improve”,“develop”,“promote” and “strengthen”,all of which require cooperation and long-term efforts to accomplish,shape the image of the active and promising government of China.(3)The construction and development of the CPC is an important political support for the advancement of China’s political and economic undertakings.Among the high-frequency adjectives,the words “economic”,“national”,“political” and “social”show that the image of the Communist Party of China(CPC)’s overall leadership is built.(4)The frequent use of high-value modal verbs in the English versions of Xi Jinping: The Governance of China expresses the CPC’s strong determination to take concrete measures with a majestic image.Therefore,the research of this thesis can provide reference for the language research of building the image of the Communist Party of China(CPC). |
