The high school entrance examination,as an academic level examination,plays a vital role in the selection and talent distribution of talents at the middle school level in China.Reading is an essential skill that language learners need to master,and it is heavily weighted in the English test of the Chinese high school entrance examination.Therefore,the validity of the English reading comprehension test in the study can not only provide a data reference for the propositional personnel of the middle school entrance examination to judge the validity of the reading test,but also summarize the relevant methods suitable for actual English reading teaching,so as to provide corresponding suggestions for the teaching of junior high school teachers and the learning of students.This study selects the test questions in the 2017-2022 Guangxi Beibu Gulf Economic Zone,adopts the method of combining text analysis,quantitative analysis and comparative analysis,and analyzes the propositional characteristics and content validity of the reading comprehension test from the two dimensions of discourse input and expected answer,so as to understand the overall development of English test questions in the region and provide reference for teacher teaching and student learning after the reform of compulsory education curriculum standards in 2022.The results found that:(1)the propositional characteristics of the English reading comprehension test questions in the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region Middle School Entrance Examination in the past six years were mainly as follows:moderate length of articles,low number of new words,and low overall difficulty;The amount of information is relatively rich,and the subject matter covers a wide range;The question types are diverse,focusing on the examination of a variety of reading skills.(2)The validity of the content of English reading comprehension in this region is generally good,and it is more consistent with the "English Curriculum Standards for Compulsory Education(2011 Edition)".(3)There are still some deficiencies in the genre,examination skills and question types of English reading comprehension in this region.First,in terms of discourse input,the genre coverage of the article is incomplete,narrative and expository text account for a relatively large proportion,and some other styles need to be examined.Second,in terms of expected responses,although the selection of reading comprehension materials covers a wide range,the skills examined are overly focused on the skill of "obtaining specific information".Third,there are fewer forms of reading comprehension questions,only two forms: judgment of true or false questions and reading multiple choice questions.In view of the above problems,this study puts forward corresponding suggestions from three aspects: the selection and design of propositional personnel test questions,the reading teaching of junior high school English teachers,and the English reading learning of junior high school students:(1)Proposition personnel:the genre of English reading test questions needs to be richer;Presentation should focus more on non-verbal symbols;The theme should focus on the two themes of man and self and man and nature;Hints of new word labeling should be appropriately reduced;The format of the questions needs to be more diverse.(2)Junior high school English teachers: pay attention to the cultivation of students’ multiple literacy;Focus on large-unit teaching;Focus on cultivating students’ cross-cultural communication and communication skills.(3)Junior high school students: learn to reason about new words;Read extracurricular reading on a variety of topics and genres;Learn the excellent culture of China and abroad.
