A Study Of Storytelling Expression In Character Documentaries Under The Aesthetic Of Reception

The concept of documentary film has changed with technological innovations and changing public attitudes,gradually replacing political narratives with rich invocations of the human spirit,and the expression of content has evolved from simple lists of facts to different forms of narrative.The rapidly developing society has provided a constant source of material for the creation of documentary characters,and this form and style of storytelling has become increasingly popular and one of the reasons for the success of many documentaries.This paper starts from the reception theory,takes the reader as the center,takes the character documentary as the research object,studies its story-oriented expression.Using literature research method,text analysis method,induction and summary method,this paper studies the story-oriented expression strategy of character documentary with several cases.The first part discusses the role of reception theory in the creation and reception of documentary.In the second part,it clarifies the narrative theory of story,combs the evolution of narrative style of character documentary since New China 70 years ago,and demonstrates the expression and acceptance process of documentary story.On this basis,it analyzes the process of image acceptance,and proves the relationship between creation and acceptance,author and audience in three stages of the process of acceptance.The third part,which is also the core part of this paper,studies how the documentary applies the reception theory to the expression and construction of the story from three aspects,namely the calling structure,the horizon of expectation and the emotional identification,puts forward specific strategies,and analyzes and discusses the creation of the graduation work "Place".The last part of the paper summarizes this research and draws a conclusion: the completion of storytelling depends on both the creator and the recipient’s re-creation of the image content in the process of receiving.Starting from the theory of reception aesthetics,we will find that the techniques of documentary storytelling are diversified.No matter the calling structure,the horizon of expectation,or the emotional identification of potential readers,the creator needs to take "readers" as the center,the story content as the core,and the depth of thought as the goal to complete the interpretation of the documentary.
