| As China’s economy and culture increasingly become more and more international, the market for museum exhibition translations is expanding to establish a good international image for China and to enhance China’s cultural soft power to introduce Chinese culture and history to the world comes to an urgent task.In the past, the situation of English translations in museums was grim, full of inappropriate words, grammatical mistakes and so on being very common, which not only did not introduce Chinese history and culture to foreign visitors, but also caused misunderstandings among foreign visitors, seriously affecting the process of China’s ’going out’ process and having a very negative impact on the spread of Chinese culture.Cultural communication is not built in one day, such mistakes are not conducive to the establishment of China’s international image as a cultural power. Therefore,in the context of global cultural development, the author wishes to summarise, analyse and conclude the coherence of adjacent and opening and closing paragraphs, and through the analysis of the final draft,to examine the translation problems that arose in the project, thus attempting to analyse how to continuously improve, build on the strengths and avoid the weaknesses, and present the reader with a better translation of the cultural text.Firstly, the difficulties of English translation coherence within the project are analysed, and the four major difficulties within the paragraphs are analysed by splitting the sentences, including the lack of information in the preceding and following texts, the wrong choice of subject, abstract expressions in Chinese and excessive repetition of information;secondly, the author analyses the difficulties of English translation coherence between the paragraphs from the full text, such as the poor connection between the beginning and end of adjacent paragraphs and the lack of echoing of key information. Finally, the author summarises the corresponding translation strategies to improve the quality of the translations to meet the exhibition standards in view of the above translation difficulties within and between paragraphs. This study will help the author to pay more attention to the overall translation of paragraphs in future museum projects, and to improve the efficiency and quality of translation. At the same time, the author hopes that this study can provide some reference and inspiration for other translators when translating similar texts from museums. |
