Guzheng solo Chasing The Sun is one of the commissioned works of the 35 th Shanghai Spring Guzheng Art Festival. It was written by composer Chen Zhe at the invitation of Guzheng Professional Committee of Shanghai Musicians’ Association. Moreover, this composition was prescribed as one of the repertoire of the 2018 Shanghai Spring "Dunhuang Cup" for Guzheng Performance Youth Group. The composition is based on the fairy tale Quafoo Chasing The Sun.On the basis of applying F-tone,five-tone tuning and common playing techniques, the author brings a new language image to people.Following the stylistic structure, this article will be divided into four parts according to the development of the story——Quafoo chasing the sun,Quafoo’s thirst for drinking,Quafoo’s death and Quafoo’s rebirth.Through my own performance experience,I will analyze the musical image shaped by the work "Chasing The Sun".The first part of this paper shows the spiritual image of Quafoo’s persistent pursuing the eternal life.To elaborate on it,I will focus on three aspects——the changes of the relationship between hands, stress distribution and intensity control. The second part depicts Quafoo’s persistence in belief even when his life is threatened. This part is interpreted from three angles——emotions mastery, usage of conventional techniques and the management of noise and sound. The third part is concentrated on how to show Quafoo’s bitter ending through timbre control, distribution of musical range and breath control. The fourth part shows the rebirth of Quafoo’s spirit by sublimating Quafoo’s spirit and representing the materials. It is hoped that the research in this paper can provide some theoretical reference for the majority of performers. |
