This paper is a practical report on Chinese to English translation and the source text is taken from the second chapter of Research on the Farming Culture of Ethnic Minorities in Southern Yunnan by Professor Li Xueliang.Agricultural land use is the foundation of the whole farming society.ChapterⅡ,with 19105 words, introduces the changes in agricultural land use patterns, reflecting the differences and characteristics in the understanding of nature, land, farming and the purpose of farming among the ethnic minorities in southern Yunnan. The source text contains a lot of agricultural terms, characteristic phrases of ethnic minorities and short sentences, and has the characteristics of objectivity, accuracy, rigorous structure and strong logic.According to Newmark’s text type theory,it belongs to information text.According to the “Comprehension,Expression and Adaptation”(CEA)framework proposed by Li Changshuan, this report analyzes examples to summarize how to solve problems related to comprehension, expression and adaptation. In the Comprehension phase, the translator reads parallel texts to compensate for the lack of background knowledge and a specialized terminology glossary is established. In the Expression phase, the shift of sentence component is carried out to accurately reflect the semantic equivalence between the source and target texts, ensure language authenticity and faithfulness to the original text, and free from ambiguity. In the Adaptation phase, through translation methods such as omission and semantic explication, implicit and exact information is conveyed to achieve the goal of cross-cultural communication. It is hoped that this research can provide reference to the translation of agricultural culture of ethnic minorities in the future. This translation practice report mainly consists of five parts: the first part is the description of the translation task, which briefly introduces the background of the text source and the significance of the translated project;the second part is the description of the translation process, including the preparation before translation, the use of translation methods and the proofreading after translation;the third part introduces the CEA framework;the fourth part analyzes cases of translated texts based on the CEA framework, and explores the solutions to the problems found in the translation. The fifth part is the conclusion, which summarizes the gains and experiences of this translation practice.
