Interpreting is the result of comprehension, while the accent is an important factor affecting information comprehension.Due to the diversity of speakers’ source language habits, interpreting quality is normally affected by accent.A qualified interpreter should try to avoid the influence of accent and improve the faithfulness and fluency of interpreting. This report is based on the practice of consecutive interpreting for the business course of the Philippine University of Perpetual Help System DALTA.Through reviewing the previous researches on Filipino English variants and combining it with specific interpreting situations, the author summarized a set of Philippine English pronunciation variation rules from the three perspectives of phonetic symbol, letter, and word.On this basis, the author selected typical cases of accent affecting interpreting in the transcription text, and comparatively analyzed the characteristics of the Filipino speaker’s accent variations and the author’s interpreting performance,to explore the influence of Filipino accent on interpreting quality.Through case analysis, the author found that accent could greatly affect the interpreter’s listening, comprehension, and output.Meanwhile, the equipment and environment of remote interpreting, the speaking style and segment length of the speaker, and other factors can bring exponential difficulties to interpreting, thus ultimately affecting the interpreting quality. It is hoped this report could highlight the importance of accent listening practice and inspire interpreting learners and professionals.
