The Research Of The Longevity Scroll

The pursuit of longevity is the common ideal of mankind,and the treasure scroll of longevity that appeared in the late Qing Dynasty is the common product of traditional Chinese culture and secular aspirations.This thesis takes the Longevity Treasure Scroll as the research object,and systematically studies it from multiple perspectives such as cultural connotation,social background,structural form,and text content.The full text is divided into six parts:The introductory part first reviews the research status of the Longevity Scroll,sorts out the research results of predecessors on the Scroll of Life,analyzes the problems to be further solved,and summarizes the research significance of this thesis.The first part of the main text clarifies the connotation of the Treasure of Life Extension.Human beings’ desire to prolong life stems from the innate desire to survive and fear of death,and the acquired cognition of life and death constantly strengthens human consciousness of survival.Longevity is a common belief in Chinese secular society,and indigenous Taoists try to prolong the life of individuals through means such as refining.After Buddhism was introduced to Middle-earth,it incorporated the idea of longevity into its own theoretical system to meet the psychological needs of the people of Middle-earth.Inheriting the tradition of longevity,the Scroll of Longevity combines religious beliefs and folk tales to inject new vitality into the ancient topic of "longevity".The second part examines the types and forms of the Longevity Scroll.By combing the survival of the six types of longevity treasure scrolls and the entire longevity treasure scroll,it can be seen that there are differences in the structure and form of the longevity treasure scrolls in different regions,which show the characteristics of strong religion and strict rules in the north and strong interest and flexibility in the south.The third and fourth parts,with the method of obtaining life extension as the criterion for classification,divide the life extension treasure scroll into two categories,cultivation and spell rescue,and examine the content of the text separately.In the good and evil retribution mode in the cultivation class life extension scroll,the good and evil deeds of the characters are rewarded,and the methods of retribution are all justified;The prototype of its main body "Longevity Treasure Scroll" comes from Tao Zongyi’s "Nancun Jiugenglu" at the end of the Yuan Dynasty,rather than Shen Defu’s "Ye Yu Compilation" in the Ming Dynasty;The behavior of cutting flesh to save relatives in the treasure scroll is influenced by factors such as the complementarity of traditional Chinese medicine,the ancient Chinese society’s admiration for the act of cutting flesh to save relatives,and the story of Buddha’s life.The two stories of Zhao Yan Borrowing Shou,Peach Blossom Girl and Zhou Gongdou Fa involved in the Spell Rescue Extended Life Treasure Scroll are not original to the Treasure Scroll,and interact with other literary forms;Among them,the art of life extension is based on the art of measuring life,mainly influenced by Taoism,using Taoist rituals such as worship dou and Yuguan Dufu,and the footwork and spells of Daomen are also important parts of the art of life extension.The fifth part examines the rituals and functions of the Scroll of Longevity.The rituals of the Longevity Scroll show the characteristics of set-up and regionalization,with the Northern "Buddha Says Yin Gong Treasure Scroll" being strictly formulated,while the Southern Longevity Treasure Scroll is more flexible and free.The Longevity Treasure Scroll has the functions of persuading people to believe in religion,persuading people to be good,soothing people’s hearts,and entertaining blessings,so it is widely welcomed by the public.
