The Construction Of The Multiple Images Of Women Workers In The Republic Of China From The Perspective Of International Labour(1931-1941)

The development of modern industrialization and urbanization has led to the emergence of professional women."Women’s work as bottom professional women is the epitome of social change and era change,and its" role positioning "not only provides a reference for contemporary people to study the production and living conditions of bottom professional women,but also provides an analysis object that can be used for reference.";It also provides important theoretical resources for reconstructing the contemporary gender order.In the 1930s,as a special issue for studying labor issues,International Labour magazine provided more opportunities for labor experts,women experts,and working women in various countries to speak from a global perspective by describing the women’ s labor movements and related policies that occurred in advanced industrial countries and internationally at that time."International Labour" magazine,through its portrayal of the multiple images of women workers as "family,society,and politics",has highly praised their behavior of breaking through family constraints,engaging in social production,and supporting the construction of the Anti Japanese War.In terms of family,it subverts the traditional family role of women as "virtuous wives and good mothers",and "reconstructs" a new family outlook in which women workers seek economic independence,freedom in marriage and love,and achieve equal status in the husband and wife family.In terms of society,it has broken through the single gender writing of women workers,fully affirmed their productive contributions,strived for educational equality and social openness,and on this basis,"integrated" the rich social image of women workers.In terms of politics,the image of a "national" that highlighted women workers’ support for the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression,their demand for democracy,their solidarity with the world feminist movement,and their struggle for judicial protection created conditions for the transformation of the image of modern women workers from a " virtuous wife and mother" under the yoke of ethics to a " female national" in modern times.However,the capitalist "pursuit of profit" and the "male chauvinism"consciousness as its core have dominated the discourse system of modern times.It weakens the differences in female temperament and gender experience,and strengthens the " male characteristics" in the image construction of female workers in International Labour magazine.The ideology of " national supremacy" dominates the editorial team of the International Labour magazine,emphasizing the "national"obligations of women workers,and failing to provide effective protection and assistance to the construction of women workers’ subjective consciousness and their tragic situation.The dual patriarchal structure constructed by traditional moral concepts and national state discourse collectively suppresses the discourse demands of women workers.In addition,women workers’ low intellectual awareness,weak"subject consciousness",and wartime destruction have limited the audience and distribution scope of the International Labour magazine,leading to its construction of women workers’ images being mostly written.In the 1930s,in the face of the fierce impact of Chinese and Western civilization,the anti imperialist and anti feudal social value system always dominated the discourse construction of the International Labour magazine.On this basis,the writing principle of emphasizing the " political" image of women workers’ national obligations as the standard,supplemented by new images of " family" and " society"has been formed.It can be said that the magazine " International Labour" has written the "myriad images" of women workers at home and abroad in modern times with "an inch of land",making important contributions to the promotion of revolutionary new knowledge and wartime production mobilization.
