This paper examines the story morphology of Disney live-action princess films.Disney Company has so far released a total of five live-action princess films,namely Maleficent,Cinderella,Beauty and the Beast,Aladdin and Mulan.These five films show certain patterns and characteristics at the level of story form,especially in terms of function and character.This paper examines the above films based on Propp’s story morphology theory.This paper is mainly divided into four parts.The first part defines the concept of princess films,briefly describes the object of study,and gives a brief overview of Propp’s story morphology theory.The second part examines the function of the story morphology of Disney’s live-action princess films,and explores the formal regularity and content variability of these films.Part 3 examines the character of the story morphology of Disney’s live-action princess films,and explores the stability and variability of roles,discussing the breakthroughs presented by the princess characters in terms of external image,character traits and social relationships.Part 4 examines the revelations and limitations of Disney’s live-action princess films,and explores the success of Disney’s adaptation of princess animation into live-action films as well as the problems in the current context of consumer culture. |
