In recent years,as the research on cognitive linguistics has been intensified, embodied cognition in the process of language comprehension has received more and more attention. In terms of embodied cognition processing and representation of emotional words, previous studies have covered the processing mechanisms of individual emotional words of the first language and the second language and emotional words in the first language contexts, but have not explored whether emotional words automatically activate language-space associations in sentential contexts during the second language processing, and whether negation affects or adjusts such associations under that condition. Therefore, this study focuses on whether the comprehension of posture-specific emotional words and non-posture specifically emotional words in the sentential context activates vertical dimensional spatial associations, and investigates whether negation and different levels of second language proficiency have an impact on this language-space association. This study is based on an embodied cognitive view of language comprehension.Participants are divided into a high-level group and a medium-level group according to their second language proficiency level, and the experimental stimuli are classified by second-language emotional context, which are emotional sentences containing posture-specific emotional words and emotional sentences containing non-posture specifically emotional words. In Experiment 1,the participants are asked to read affirmative or negative second-language sentences containing posture-specific emotional words. Then, the participants are asked to press the button up or down depending on the color of the displayed dots.In Experiment 2,the participants are asked to read emotional sentences containing non-posture specifically emotional words, and the setup is the same as in Experiment 1.The experimental program automatically collects relevant reaction time and accuracy, and then SPSS26.0 are used for data analysis. The conclusion was drawn that: Firstly, the comprehension of sentences containing posture-specific emotional words in the second-language sentential contexts automatically activates spatial associations in the vertical dimension. And negation alters this language-space association. However, different levels of second language proficiency do not affect the association.Secondly, the comprehension of second-language sentences containing non-posture specifically emotional words does not automatically activate the language-space association in the vertical dimension. Finally, the different valences of emotional words influence the processing of sentences containing posture-specific emotional words and sentences containing non-posture specifically emotional words in the second-language sentential context. Therefore, the study further explores the comprehension of the cognitive processing of emotional words in second-language sentences and negation conditions. It also verifies the effect of the second language proficiency level on the language-space association of emotional word processing. The results of the study have implications for the second language teaching of emotional words and negation.
