Research On Government Regulatory Mechanism Of Variety Shows In China

Variety show is a kind of program form with entertainment based on TV and network platform.Because it can meet the increasingly rich entertainment needs of the audience,it is loved by the public.At the same time,variety shows are also an important part of China’s cultural industry,assuming the social responsibility of cultural education and value guidance.In recent years,China’s variety show industry has been developing continuously,and TV variety shows and network variety shows have emerged in endlessly,which has played a certain role in boosting the prosperity of China’s cultural industry.However,while the prosperity and development of variety shows in China have also exposed some problems,which have caused a bad impact on the society and need the supervision of the national regulatory authorities.In response to some of the problems and chaos existing in variety shows,the Chinese government has issued a series of policy documents,which have achieved certain regulatory effects,but there are still many regulatory loopholes.In this context,it is of great theoretical and practical significance to study the government regulatory mechanism of variety shows in China.The paper first uses the text analysis method to sort out the relevant policy documents of the State Administration of Radio,Film and Television,explains the characteristics and status quo of the regulatory mechanism of China’s variety shows from the aspects of regulation subject,regulation means and regulation system,and expounds their relationship.Then by case analysis,with iQIYI’s self-made variety show "Youth with You 3" and Hunan TV’s "Happy Camp"as typical cases,in the three-point framework of "government——industry——social public",the cases are summarized from the government supervision process,the broadcast platform’s response to supervision,and the public’s response to supervision,based on the theory of government regulation and the theory of public interest,recognizing the effective results of government regulation.At the same time,the paper combined with the interview results of the variety show director,the post-editing staff and the host,taking the regulatory system,the regulatory subject and the regulatory means as the analytical framework to analyze the regulatory loopholes existing in the two cases,and cases using the time series model analysis of Donald Campbell,it is concluded that the problems existing in the government regulatory mechanism of variety shows in China include:absence of special supervision laws,ambiguity of system content standards,lagging regulatory system,overlapping powers of regulatory subjects,weak self-discipline of industry associations,limited public feedback channels,single regulatory means,and minor economic punishment.Combined with relevant theories,the paper puts forward three feasible suggestions on improving the government regulatory mechanism of variety shows:improving the regulatory system,optimizing the coordination of regulatory subjects,and innovating the regulatory means.The above suggestions can be copied and promoted to other types of variety shows,which has certain application value.
