| Vocabulary learning plays an essential role in English learning in senior high schools. Many students put much time and effort into vocabulary learning but with limited success.Studies have shown that incidental vocabulary learning(IVL)was an effective way to increase vocabulary. However, there are few studies on the ways of IVL and the use of incidental vocabulary processing strategies(IVPS)for EFL learners, especially for senior high school learners, which need further research. From the perspective of IVL,this study conducts a survey on the use of IVL ways and IVPS among senior high school students, trying to answer the three following research questions:1.How do EFL learners in senior high schools use IVL ways and IVPS?2.Are there significant differences in IVL ways and the use of IVPS among EFL learners of different English levels in senior high school? What are the differences?3.Are there significant differences in IVL ways and the use of IVPS between male and female EFL learners in senior high school? What are the differences? In the study,318 senior students were chosen from a high school in Hulunbuir City as the participants, and the data were analyzed by SPSS 26.0.The study found that: 1.In terms of IVL ways, students more often used the ways of reading, writing, and translating to acquire English vocabulary.About the IVPS,students could use IVPS well to deal with new words, and inferencing strategies were more commonly used than consulting strategies.2.According to the result of the independent samples T-test,there were significant differences in IVL ways and inferencing and consulting vocabulary processing strategies between the high-level and low-level groups. The students in the high-level group more often used various IVL ways to acquire vocabulary and more actively used IVPS to deal with new words.3.Except that female students used the ways of speaking and writing more often than male students, there were no significant differences in other IVL ways and IVPS. |
